Wonder Expands Into San Antonio With New Restaurant Planned Near UTSA and De Zavala Corridor

June 05 2026

Residents on San Antonio’s Northwest Side may soon have a new way to satisfy multiple dinner cravings with a single order as Wonder moves forward with plans for a new location near the De Zavala Road corridor.

According to state construction filings, Wonder is preparing a $1 million renovation project at 5230 De Zavala Road, Suite 204, the former home of Wing Daddy's Sauce House. The project will transform the existing 4,020-square-foot space into a new Wonder restaurant, further expanding the company's growing Texas footprint.

Construction is scheduled to begin on July 17, 2026, with completion anticipated by October 10, 2026, according to project records filed in Bexar County.

For families, students, and professionals living near The University of Texas at San Antonio, La Cantera, The Rim, and surrounding Northwest San Antonio neighborhoods, the project represents more than another restaurant opening. It reflects continued commercial investment in one of the city's fastest-growing corridors while introducing a dining model that differs significantly from traditional restaurants.

What Is Wonder?

Wonder describes itself as a "mealtime platform built to satisfy every craving without compromise," combining restaurant-quality dining with delivery technology, pickup options, dine-in experiences, and chef-driven menus.

Rather than focusing on a single restaurant concept, Wonder allows customers to order meals from multiple restaurant brands and celebrity chef concepts in one transaction. A family, for example, could order barbecue, pizza, burgers, and other menu items from different restaurant brands simultaneously without placing multiple orders from separate businesses.

The company has partnered with several prominent names in the culinary world, including Bobby Flay, José Andrés, and Marcus Samuelsson, along with well-known restaurant concepts such as Tejas Barbecue and Di Fara Pizza.

The model is designed to address a common challenge for modern households: finding meal options that satisfy different tastes while maintaining convenience and quality.

Why the San Antonio Location Matters

San Antonio has become one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in Texas, with ongoing residential development, expanding employment centers, and increasing demand for convenient dining options.

The De Zavala Road corridor, in particular, serves a diverse mix of residents, students, healthcare professionals, and visitors. The area is anchored by major destinations including UTSA, the South Texas Medical Center, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and some of the region's busiest retail centers.

For nearby residents, the arrival of Wonder could provide a new option for weeknight dinners, takeout meals, family gatherings, and delivery orders without requiring multiple restaurant stops.

The project also breathes new life into a previously occupied commercial space, helping maintain activity and investment within an established retail center.

Part of a Much Larger Texas Expansion

The San Antonio project is part of Wonder's broader expansion strategy across Texas.

Earlier this year, company leaders announced plans to expand into the Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio metropolitan areas, marking the company's first major move beyond its traditional Northeast and Mid-Atlantic markets.

"We're excited to enter Texas and introduce more people to what makes Wonder unique – chef-crafted menus, unmatched variety, and seamless convenience," Wonder North America CEO Tony Hoggett said when the company announced its Texas expansion.

The company has stated that it expects to open more than 100 Texas locations by the end of 2027, creating thousands of jobs statewide as it builds its presence across major metropolitan markets.

Company leaders have cited Texas' rapid population growth, strong suburban communities, and evolving dining preferences as key factors driving the expansion.

"Texas' dynamic food culture, population growth, and suburban footprint align closely with our delivery-first model," Hoggett said.

Sustainability and Community Focus

As Wonder expands, the company has also emphasized sustainability and community engagement initiatives.

According to company information, Wonder plans to prioritize seasonal and organic ingredients when available, source meats raised without added antibiotics or hormones when possible, and reduce food waste through donation partnerships and waste-reduction programs.

The company has previously partnered with food insecurity organizations including City Harvest, Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Philabundance, and Feeding Westchester, and has indicated it intends to remain active in local communities as it grows.

What Happens Next

Construction records indicate renovation work is expected to conclude in October 2026, though an official grand opening date for the San Antonio location has not yet been announced.

As work progresses, residents along the Northwest Side can expect additional details regarding hiring opportunities, opening timelines, dining options, and service availability.

For San Antonio families seeking convenience, variety, and chef-inspired dining choices, Wonder's arrival could soon add a new option to the city's already diverse culinary landscape.

As commercial growth continues throughout Northwest San Antonio, projects like Wonder highlight how national brands are increasingly investing in communities where population growth, neighborhood development, and consumer demand continue to shape the future of local dining.
