Rescued Dog at Houston SPCA Gives Lifesaving Gift to Very Sick Puppy

August 15 2023

A 10-week-old puppy rescued by the Houston SPCA after she was found extremely lethargic, emaciated and suffering from parasites is alive today thanks to the help from another rescued dog in their care through a lifesaving blood transfusion at their animal medical center.

Dr. Rebecca Shipley, a Houston SPCA veterinarian and several other veterinary staff were able to transfer blood from Browny, a 5-year-old Labrador retriever to save the Australian cattledog mix’s life.

Dr. Shipley explains her serious condition, and treatment here.

The puppy, now named Precious, no longer has a heart murmur since the transfusion. She will remain in the Houston SPCA’s care until she is ready for the adoption program in a week or two.

To report animal cruelty or an animal in distress, please call 713-869-SPCA (7722) or file a report at houstonspca.org.
