Coffee drinkers in Katy will soon have something a little different to add to their usual morning routine.

Qahwa Corner, a Houston-area coffee concept centered on Arabic coffee traditions and Middle Eastern hospitality, is planning a new shop at 1657 S. Fry Road and Greenwind Chase Drive in Katy, placing its cardamom-spiced coffee and specialty drinks within easy reach of residents in Governors Place.

Construction documents describe the project as an interior build-out of approximately 1,543 square feet inside an existing building. The renovation is scheduled to begin Oct. 1, 2026, with completion anticipated by Jan. 31, 2027. The project carries an estimated construction cost of $110,000, with the overall space listed at 1,688 square feet.

For a community already lined with restaurants, shops and everyday stops, the addition brings another locally oriented gathering place to a part of Katy where coffee shops often serve as much more than somewhere to grab caffeine on the way to work.

Arabic Coffee Traditions Meet Katy’s Growing Coffee Scene

Qahwa Corner describes its concept as a meeting point between centuries-old Arabic coffee traditions and Houston’s modern coffee culture.

The word qahwa is commonly associated with Arabic coffee, and the shop builds much of its identity around the ritual and hospitality that traditionally surround it. According to the company, its approach draws inspiration from Middle Eastern homes, where serving coffee is often closely tied to welcoming guests, sitting together and taking time for conversation.

That philosophy could make the upcoming South Fry Road shop particularly well suited to the surrounding residential community. Rather than positioning the café solely as a grab-and-go stop, Qahwa Corner says its spaces are intended for people to work, relax and connect — the familiar neighborhood coffee-shop rhythm of laptops during the afternoon, friends catching up over a drink and families settling in for something sweet.

For Governors Place residents, that means the new location may offer another nearby option for everything from a quiet coffee break to an informal meeting spot without requiring a trip farther into Houston.

What Will Be on the Menu at Qahwa Corner?

Coffee is the centerpiece, but the flavors are what distinguish Qahwa Corner from a conventional café.

The company highlights traditional cardamom-infused qahwa, made with coffee and aromatic spices, alongside drinks such as its saffron latte and signature creations influenced by flavors from across the Arab world. Qahwa Corner says it uses carefully sourced beans and incorporates aromatic spices into its coffee program, bringing traditional flavor combinations into drinks designed for contemporary café customers.

The menu has something to offer both longtime fans of Arabic coffee and those trying it for the first time: customers already familiar with Arabic coffee can find recognizable flavors and traditions, while someone whose normal order rarely ventures beyond a latte can use the menu as an introduction to cardamom, saffron and other flavors less commonly found at mainstream coffee chains.

It also reflects a broader change in the Houston-area coffee landscape. Independent cafés increasingly offer experiences tied to specific cultures and traditions, turning a coffee run into an opportunity to discover something new without leaving the neighborhood.

A New Coffee Shop Taking Shape on South Fry Road

The project is classified as a renovation and alteration rather than ground-up construction, meaning Qahwa Corner will be building out an existing commercial space at 1657 S. Fry Road.

Plans call for the approximately 1,543-square-foot interior coffee shop build-out to take place between October and the end of January. Construction schedules can change as projects move through permitting and build-out, so an official opening date has not yet been announced.

Still, the location itself is notable. South Fry Road runs through a heavily residential portion of the Katy area, making the planned café convenient to surrounding neighborhoods and the families, commuters and small businesses that travel the corridor each day.

Qahwa Corner is building its brand around that idea of hospitality and connection, but through the lens of Arabic coffee culture — a tradition where the cup itself is often only part of the reason people gather.

That could make its arrival especially meaningful near Governors Place, where the new shop will add another locally accessible place for residents to meet while also introducing many customers to coffee flavors and customs they may not have experienced before.

If construction follows the currently filed timeline, the South Fry Road build-out should be completed in late January 2027. Details regarding an official opening date, operating hours and the complete Katy menu have not yet been announced.
