Conveniently located at 16719 Clay Rd, Houston, TX 77084, the Katherine Tyra Branch Library, part of the Harris County Public Library system, is open Monday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday from 10:00 AM from 8:00 PM, Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Friday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, and Sunday closed. • Preschool Princess Party | 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Join us for a magical, Princess-themed Preschool Story Time with a special guest Princess! This Miracle Princess will join us to read her story about growing up in a magical house and finding her place among her fantastical family. We will also sing, dance, and play games! Costumes are encouraged! There will be time at the end of the program for each child to take a photo with the princess.
• Teen Tabletop RPGs | 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM

  • Join us for a one-shot campaign to learn game play basics in a collaborative and fun environment! No registration is required and snacks will be provided. This month we will be playing a Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition module!

WEDNESDAY, July 31

• Toddler Time | 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
  • Join us for Toddler Time, an early literacy program where we share stories, songs, rhymes, and a take-home craft! This program is for children ages 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers. 
• Children's Movie and Ice Cream Social | 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

  • Join us as we celebrate the end of Summer Reading with ice cream and an animated movie about a girl trying to fit in with her magical family. Singing along welcomed! This is a ticketed program. Tickets will be made available on a first come, first served basis 30 minutes before the program starts.

• Sunshine Baby Time | 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Sunshine Baby Time is an early literacy program for babies up to 18 months and their caregivers. Please join us as we share early literacy tips, stories, songs, and fun! In order to ensure the safety of our youngest patrons, this is a ticketed program. Free tickets will be available in the library on the morning of the program. First come, first served.

• Savvy Stitchers | 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM

  • Savvy Stitchers is a friendly group of crafters of all ages, getting together for fellowship while enjoying their creative hobbies. It is a great way to meet neighbors that have a mutual love for knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, quilting, or other crafts. We all love to learn something new! Join each Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00PM.

About Katherine Tyra Branch Library

Bear Creek Library opened to the public in May 1983.  It served the Bear Creek community in west Houston for 9 years before a tornado damaged the building in 1992 and forced a temporary closure.  The library was renovated and reopened the following year.  The branch was renamed the Katherine Tyra Library in 1999 to honor Katherine Tyra who served as Harris County District Clerk from 1991-1995.

In August 2017, overfill from the Addicks Reservoir during Hurricane Harvey flooded the branch with almost 10 inches of water.  The Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Library was forced to close again.  After a massive restoration effort, the library reopened to the public on April 30, 2018.
