Harris County Precinct 4 has organized a slew of fun events for all ages throughout the month of July. Independence Day Luncheons, Greek Readers Theater, and More!
 
Hockley Community Center
Senior Games and Independence Day Covered Dish Luncheon
Friday, July 1 @ 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Come join us for ‘42’ dominoes, canasta, bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, or pick a board game. In celebration of Independence Day, hot dogs and apple pie will be provided for lunch. Discovery Days: Backyard Critters with TWRC Wildlife Center

All are welcome at this program designed especially for school-aged children. Meet some animal ambassadors from TWRC Wildlife Center and learn about the benefits of coexisting with our wild neighbors, their roles in the urban ecosystem, and how to help wildlife in need. Discovery Days: Skins and Skulls with Texas Wildlife Association
Wednesday, July 13 @ 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM or 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM
All are welcome at this program designed especially for school-aged children. Did you know you can learn about an animal’s habitat, food sources, and tools for survival just by looking at its skull and fur? The Texas Wildlife Association will show you how to use these items to identify characteristics of native Texas animals. Registration is required, and space is limited. This presentation will discuss the amazing gold that is so important in the Akan culture, predominant in Ghana. The speaker will also discuss masks, textiles, and other items that are used in the traditions and ceremonies of different cultures in Western Africa. Limited number of participants. Latin Party Potluck and Dance

Please bring a dish to share with other Glazier members. Sign up in advance at the front desk for the dish you wish to bring. The potluck will be from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Then, come have fun on the dance floor. Enjoy a wide range of Latin music, such as salsa, merengue, cumbia, and more. The dance will be from 1:30 - 3 p.m. Enjoy spending time with your friends and fellow Glazier members. Greek Readers Theater: Antigone
Friday, July 22 and 29 @ 7:30 PM
Let your imagination run wild as actors set the scene for this classic Sophocles play. Antigone, the daughter of King Oedipus, stands up against an immoral law, risking her life in the process. As Antigone defies the law, proudly standing up for her beliefs, the audience questions whether morality is defined by laws or by our personal convictions and virtues.
