Pearl Fincher Museum Announces Free Summer Exhibitions, Back to School Bash and Concert in Spring
Families searching for free summer activities still have several opportunities to enjoy art, music and hands-on children’s programs at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts.
Located along Cypresswood Drive near Stuebner Airline Drive in northwest Harris County, the museum’s summer lineup includes two art exhibitions, a family-friendly Maker Space, weekly art activities, a Back to School Bash and a free classical concert. Admission to the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is free, making the museum an accessible indoor destination for residents in Spring, Cypress, Klein, the FM 1960 area and communities north of Houston.
For local families, the schedule offers more than a way to escape the summer heat. It provides children with creative learning opportunities, gives residents access to original works of art close to home and brings free cultural programming to a part of Harris County located outside Houston’s traditional museum district.
What Free Summer Events Are Happening at the Pearl Fincher Museum?
Visitors can explore two free exhibitions through Sept. 5, participate in Wild Art Wednesdays through Aug. 12, attend a free Back to School Bash on Aug. 1 and reserve seats for a free cello and piano concert on Aug. 9.
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 6815 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.
“Chromatica: A World in Color” Fills the Main Gallery
The Pearl Fincher Museum’s Main Gallery is currently featuring “Chromatica: A World in Color,” an original exhibition curated by museum staff.
Arranged like a color wheel, the exhibition includes paintings, textiles, sculptures and other works presented in a wide range of colors and artistic forms. The layout is designed to make the exhibition approachable for visitors of all ages, including children who may be visiting an art museum for the first time.
“Chromatica: A World in Color” continues through Saturday, Sept. 5.
Younger visitors can also spend time in the museum’s Maker Space, which includes craft stations, a LEGO build area, a reading nook and a scavenger hunt created in partnership with the Barbara Bush Branch Library.
The Maker Space is sponsored by the AAUW North Harris County Branch, with additional support from the Houston Brick Club, Bricks & Minifigs Spring and Bricks & Minifigs Tomball.
For parents looking for free things to do with kids in Spring or indoor summer activities near Cypress, the Maker Space adds a hands-on component to the gallery experience.
Curtis Gannon Exhibition Explores Memory and Imagination
The Cole Gallery is presenting “Fragments, Remnants, and Remains” by artist Curtis Gannon.
Gannon’s work is influenced by his childhood interest in comic books and animation. His studio process begins with small collages that later serve as the foundation for drawings, paintings and sculptures.
The resulting artwork explores memories, emotions and personal experiences through layered imagery and reconstructed forms. The exhibition gives visitors a closer look at how artists can transform familiar visual fragments into new narratives.
“Fragments, Remnants, and Remains” will remain on display through Sept. 5.
Wild Art Wednesdays Continue Through Aug. 12
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is continuing its Wild Art Wednesdays program from 2 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday through Aug. 12.
This summer’s theme, “Women Crush Wednesdays,” features free art projects inspired by well-known women artists. The activities combine art history with hands-on creativity, giving children an opportunity to learn about influential artists while completing projects of their own.
Families must register for a 20-minute time slot through the museum’s website.
The program is among several free children’s art activities available this summer in northwest Harris County and offers families a structured indoor activity during the hottest hours of the day.
Free Back to School Bash Set for Aug. 1
The Pearl Fincher Museum will host its next Family Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1.
The free Back to School Bash will include art activities, music, story time with Miss Alivia, a performance by Norola Morgan and entertainment from the Texas Bubblers.
Children attending the event will have an opportunity to take home art supplies for the upcoming school year. Books Between Kids will also distribute 300 free books during the event.
The museum’s Family Day programs are sponsored by The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.
Admission is free, although registration is requested. A complete schedule and registration information are available through the Pearl Fincher Museum events page.
For families preparing for a new school year, the event combines entertainment with practical support, including books and school-year art supplies.
W7 Duo to Perform Free Concert Aug. 9
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts will host a free concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, inside the Main Gallery.
W7 Duo features Christoph Wagner on cello and Ben Sieben on piano. The musicians will perform sonatas for cello and piano by Franz Schubert, César Franck and Vittorio Monti.
The concert is free, but reservations are requested.
The performance will give local residents an opportunity to experience live classical music in an intimate gallery setting without traveling into central Houston. Visitors will also be surrounded by works from the museum’s “Chromatica: A World in Color” exhibition.
A Free Fine Arts Museum Serving Northwest Harris County
