FUNBOX Plans 20,000-Square-Foot Indoor Inflatable Park on Spring Cypress Road
For parents looking for somewhere to let the kids burn off energy without worrying about Houston heat or a rainy weekend, another option is taking shape along Spring Cypress Road.
FUNBOX, the family entertainment brand known for its oversized inflatable playgrounds, is planning a roughly 20,000-square-foot indoor park at 1457 Spring Cypress Road, according to a Texas construction filing and previously reported leasing information for the property. The location is within Northland Shopping Center and would become the company's second permanent park in the Houston area.
The project calls for the build-out of an existing tenant space into an indoor inflatable park, with an estimated construction cost of $430,000. Work is currently scheduled to begin Oct. 12, 2026, and wrap up Jan. 15, 2027, according to the filing. Those dates reflect the anticipated construction schedule and should not be considered a confirmed opening date. FUNBOX has not yet announced when the new Spring Cypress Road park will begin welcoming guests.
For families across Spring, Klein, Cypress and northern Harris County, however, the filing provides the clearest indication yet of when the new indoor attraction could start coming together.
FUNBOX Is Already Familiar to Some Houston Families
The Spring Cypress Road park will not be FUNBOX's first appearance in the Houston market.
The company opened its first permanent Texas location in 2025 at 15540 FM 529 in the Copperfield Crossing area, after previously operating temporary outdoor pop-up locations at Katy Mills and West Oaks Mall. The FM 529 location brought FUNBOX's concept indoors, allowing the business to operate as a year-round family entertainment destination rather than a limited-run outdoor attraction.
That existing Houston location gives North Houston families a reasonable idea of what the brand is all about, although FUNBOX has not yet released a detailed attraction list for Spring Cypress Road.
At the FM 529 park, guests can find attractions with names such as Marshmallow Mountain, Gumball Gallop, Battle Beam, Ninja Wall, an obstacle course and a 23-foot slide, along with a Chill Zone. The Houston facility also offers birthday party rooms, arcade games and timed jumping sessions.
The concept is intentionally different from a collection of individual bounce houses. FUNBOX's parks are built around connected inflatable play zones that allow children — and, in many cases, adults — to climb, bounce, slide and work their way through challenges in one larger play environment.
That could make the Spring Cypress Road location particularly appealing for birthday parties, school breaks and those long stretches of Houston weather when outdoor plans are less predictable.
From a California Pop-Up to an International Inflatable Park Brand
FUNBOX's beginnings looked quite different from the inflatable parks the company operates today.
The brand debuted in Southern California in 2018 with a temporary attraction at The Oaks mall in Thousand Oaks. That original FUNBOX was a roughly 9,000-square-foot immersive maze filled with more than 20 art installations inspired by childhood imagery and experiences. By the following summer, the company reported that its Southern California attractions had drawn about 200,000 visitors.
The business ultimately evolved toward large-scale inflatable family entertainment. FUNBOX now describes itself as the world's largest inflatable park operator, with parks in the United States as well as international markets including Spain, Mexico, Canada and France.
The company says it was created by Antonio Nieves, whose own childhood has also shaped part of the brand's mission. Nieves grew up with nine younger siblings in the foster care system, according to FUNBOX, and the company has made support for foster youth a recurring part of its community outreach.
FUNBOX says its locations work with local foster-care organizations, with a particular emphasis on supporting older foster youth and young adults transitioning out of the system. The company reported donating more than $100,000 to local foster-care agencies in 2023 and another $50,000 in 2024.
That community component has followed the brand as it has expanded into new markets.
Why the Spring Cypress Road Location Matters
The new FUNBOX is another sign of the growing number of family-focused entertainment concepts moving closer to neighborhoods across northwest and north Houston.
Rather than requiring families in Spring and Klein to drive toward central Houston or farther west for a larger indoor attraction, the planned Spring Cypress Road location would put a sizable indoor inflatable park directly along a heavily traveled corridor surrounded by established neighborhoods, schools and retail.
Real estate representatives previously confirmed that FUNBOX leased approximately 19,950 square feet at Northland Shopping Center, a figure that closely matches the 20,000 square feet listed in the state construction filing.
For local parents, that means something fairly simple: another nearby option could be on the way for weekend outings, birthday parties and indoor play.
And for FUNBOX, it represents another step in establishing a permanent Houston footprint after years in which many families knew the brand primarily through temporary pop-up parks.
What Happens Next
Construction is currently projected to run from Oct. 12, 2026, through Jan. 15, 2027, with approximately $430,000 in improvements planned for the existing tenant suite.
A grand opening date, admission pricing, operating hours and the specific attractions planned for the Spring Cypress Road park have not yet been announced.
If the construction schedule holds, families should begin seeing more visible activity at the Northland Shopping Center space this fall, offering a better look at how FUNBOX plans to bring its giant indoor playground concept to this part of North Houston.
