For months, people passing the new Cold Start Coffee location on TC Jester Boulevard have been wondering when the doors would finally open.

Now, the Spring coffee shop has a date on the calendar. Cold Start Coffee will celebrate its grand opening Sunday, Oct. 4, from 3 to 8 p.m. at 18311 T C Jester Blvd, Spring, TX 77379, following months of construction and delays.

But opening day is only part of the story behind the new business.

Cold Start Coffee is the creation of Stephanie Lopez, her husband Oscar Lopez and their friend and business partner Marshall Doreen, three motorcycle enthusiasts who are building the shop around a shared interest in coffee, cars and bikes — and a larger goal of creating a place where people feel comfortable spending time and connecting with others. 

"This is more than just a coffee shop, it’s a place to connect, recharge, and kickstart your day," the shop owner said in May 2026.

From Motorcycle Community to Coffee Shop

The idea for Cold Start Coffee grew in part from Stephanie Lopez's involvement in the local motorcycle community.

Lopez has previously spoken about seeing a need for places where people could gather even when they were not out riding. In an interview with Community Impact earlier this year, she described the vision as creating a safe, welcoming space for people looking for community and somewhere to go.

That focus also connects Cold Start Coffee to another project close to Lopez's heart.

She is the founder of Throttle and Therapy, a mental health-focused clothing brand created after the loss of her mother. Lopez has described the brand as an effort to encourage conversations about grief, mental health and connection within the motorcycle community. Cold Start Coffee represents an extension of that idea into a physical gathering place where people can meet face-to-face.

In sharing the story behind the coffee shop earlier this year, Lopez said Cold Start would be inspired by automotive and motorcycle culture while remaining open to a much broader crowd — including families, friends and anyone simply looking for a comfortable place to spend some time.

That helps explain why the business is being positioned as both family-friendly and pet-friendly, rather than as a destination exclusively for car or motorcycle enthusiasts.

What to Expect at Cold Start Coffee

Coffee will naturally be at the center of the business. The owners have said the café will serve coffee along with small bites, while the drive-thru will give commuters and nearby residents another option when they need something on the go.

Inside, however, the owners have plans for the shop to serve another purpose.

Cold Start Coffee has discussed hosting recurring community activities such as trivia nights and book clubs, creating reasons for customers to return even when they are not attending a car or motorcycle gathering.

The approximately 1,853-square-foot space is located in an existing retail shell at TC Jester Plaza. State construction records show the privately funded project involved a tenant finish-out with an estimated construction cost of $150,000.

For residents in the Spring and Klein area, its location near the TC Jester Boulevard and Louetta Road corridor also puts the independently owned shop within an established mix of neighborhoods, schools, restaurants and businesses.

Car and Motorcycle Culture Is Still Part of the Personality

While Cold Start Coffee is intended to welcome people whether or not they own a motorcycle or sports car, there is no mistaking the influence of automotive culture on the business.

The name itself plays on the experience of starting an engine after it has been sitting, while the shop's racing-inspired branding carries that theme into the physical space.

Opening day will lean into that identity.

Cold Start Coffee's Oct. 4 grand opening will include vendors, giveaways, a DJ and sim racing from SimTrack Racing, and the owners are encouraging guests to arrive with their cars and motorcycles. Families, children and dogs are welcome as well.

That mix offers an early look at the kind of community Cold Start Coffee hopes to develop after opening day — one where someone stopping for coffee can share space with a motorcycle rider, a car enthusiast, a family from the neighborhood or a group meeting for an evening event.

A Longer Road to Opening Than Expected

Cold Start Coffee was originally expected to open earlier in 2026. Interior construction began in March, with an initial goal of welcoming customers by late May or early June. 

As often happens with new businesses, that timeline changed.

The owners have openly acknowledged the months of planning, construction, delays and repeated questions about when the shop would finally be ready. In announcing the October opening, they thanked residents for continuing to follow the project, share updates and send messages of encouragement while work continued.

Cold Start Coffee's own website still carries the words "Coming Soon to Spring, TX," something that will finally change when customers begin walking through the doors in October.

Cold Start Coffee's grand opening will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, from 3 to 8 p.m. at 18311 TC Jester Blvd. in Spring. Visitors can expect coffee, vendors, giveaways, DJ entertainment, sim racing and a gathering of cars and motorcycles. The event will be open to families and pets.

Once the grand-opening festivities are over, the more important test for the young business begins: turning a new coffee shop into the kind of everyday gathering place its owners have envisioned from the beginning.

For residents who have watched Cold Start Coffee take shape along TC Jester, October will finally bring the chance to see that vision for themselves.
