New Walmart Near Marvida in Cypress Set to Open in April 2025

March 17 2025

A new Walmart Supercenter is set to open in Cypress near the Marvida community on April 30, 2025. Located at 8927 Fry Rd, Cypress, TX 77433, this 203,790-square-foot retail space will serve as one of Walmart’s latest "Store of the Future" models, offering customers an enhanced shopping experience with modernized store layouts, improved technology, and expanded product selections. The $15.2 million project is part of Walmart’s national expansion and renovation initiative, which includes the construction of over 150 new stores and the remodeling of 650 existing locations across the U.S. over the next five years.

Designed by BRR Architecture, Inc., a firm with nearly 30 years of experience working with Walmart, the Cypress store will reflect the latest advancements in retail design, store layout, and merchandising strategy. BRR Architecture has collaborated with Walmart on over 10,000 new construction and remodel projects, making them a key partner in Walmart’s expansion efforts. The Cypress store, designated as store number 6930, is expected to bring economic growth to the area while providing new job opportunities for local residents.

Economic and Employment Impact in Cypress

The opening of this new Supercenter is expected to create hundreds of new jobs, offering competitive wages, tuition-free college benefits, flexible scheduling, and career growth opportunities for employees. According to John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart U.S., the company’s investment in new stores and modernized retail spaces represents "millions of dollars in capital investment" that will contribute to local economies through employment, taxes, and community engagement.

With Cypress continuing to experience rapid population growth and new residential developments, Walmart’s expansion in the area reflects the increasing demand for modern, full-service retail experiences. The Marvida community and surrounding neighborhoods will benefit from a conveniently located shopping destination designed to meet the evolving needs of consumers.

Looking Ahead

As the April 30, 2025, grand opening approaches, Walmart is expected to finalize hiring efforts while integrating with the Cypress community through outreach initiatives, like packing food at Cy-Hope's Backpack Barn to feed 162 children in Cypress. The new location is poised to serve as a key retail hub for Cypress residents, combining innovative technology, sustainability initiatives, and an expanded product selection to deliver a modern shopping experience.
