New Police Chief and Campus Principals Congratulated by Spring ISD Board of Trustees

August 16 2023

The Spring ISD Board of Trustees officially congratulated the district’s new Chief of Police Matthew Rodrigue during the board’s August 2023 work session, where the new chief was sworn in by Judge Genesis Draper of Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 12. During the meeting, trustees also recognized newly named campus principals for the 2023-24 school year.

“I’m really excited that most of your career has been spent in the Spring community,” Board President Justine Durant told Rodrigue after the swearing-in. “You know Spring – you know who we are – and we’re really grateful to have you lead us as our Chief of Police.”

With over 24 years of experience as a Texas peace officer, including nearly a decade-and-a-half with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and another eight years with Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3, Rodrigue is no stranger to the surrounding region, local schools, or the Spring ISD community. He joined the Spring ISD Police Department as a sergeant in 2021.

“I’ve worked in the Spring area my entire career,” Rodrigue said after an earlier event at the district’s police headquarters. “The fact that now I’ve been appointed and been given the privilege to be the Chief of Police of this police department, I take that honor so seriously, and it means so much to me.”

Rodrigue thanked his fellow officers who came out to the board work session to help mark the occasion, along with his wife and family members who were in attendance. He went on to thank Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa and the board for the opportunity to lead the district’s police in serving Spring ISD students, staff and families.

“You’ve trusted in me, and I’m not going to let you down,” Rodrigue told trustees.

During the same Aug. 3 work session, board members also recognized three recent officer promotions made ahead of the new school year.
  • Officer Kevin Barrios, promoted to Detective
  • Officer Fabian Walker, promoted to Corporal
  • Officer Jarrod Morton, promoted to Sergeant
Along with the new police chief and police officer promotions, board members also congratulated 10 new campus principals named this summer by the district, including eight administrators promoted from within Spring ISD and two who are new to the district for the upcoming school year. Listed below, by campus, they include:
  • Bammel Elementary, Lakeisha Dunevant
  • Beneke Elementary, Julie Smith
  • Burchett Elementary, Na’Carol Dixon Hall
  • Clark Elementary, MaShanda Walker-Shack
  • Heritage Elementary, Dr. Cesar Alvarez
