New Braunfels Road Project Open House Oct. 22: What Morningside Trails Residents Can Learn
Morningside Trails residents who want a closer look at how New Braunfels is planning future transportation improvements have an opportunity to weigh in this month. The City of New Braunfels will host an open house on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for two major road projects funded through the city's 2023 Bond program.
The drop-in meeting will be held at the NBU Service Center, 355 FM 306 in New Braunfels. Residents can arrive at any time during the open house, review preliminary project information, ask questions directly of city staff and provide feedback.
The projects are South Kowald Lane and Conrads Lane. They are part of the broader city transportation program approved by New Braunfels voters in 2023. Residents can use the open house to learn about planned road, drainage, pedestrian and intersection improvements and share their questions with city staff.
South Kowald Lane Project Would Add Turn Lanes, Sidewalks and a New Signal
The South Kowald Lane Improvement Project carries an estimated cost of about $10.7 million and covers the corridor from the I-35 frontage road to FM 1101.
Plans call for improvements to the existing two-lane road, including a center turn lane, driving lanes, shoulders and sidewalks on both sides. A new traffic signal is planned at FM 1101, along with drainage and pedestrian improvements.
Construction is tentatively scheduled for July 2028 through November 2029. Those dates remain tentative.
Conrads Lane Project Focuses on Intersections, Drainage and Shared-use Access
The Conrads Lane Improvement Project is estimated at about $11.8 million and would extend from FM 1102 to Goodwin Lane.
Planned improvements include turn lanes at major intersections, a wider intersection radius at Goodwin Lane, driving lanes, a median and turning lane, plus a shared-use path. The project also includes drainage and pedestrian improvements.
The current tentative construction window runs from April 2028 through July 2029.
Both Projects Are Part of the 2023 Bond Transportation Program
New Braunfels voters approved the city's 2023 Bond program with $99.33 million designated for transportation projects. South Kowald Lane and Conrads Lane were among the major road projects included in that proposition, along with other street, intersection and mobility improvements around the city.
The open house gives residents a chance to review preliminary information and ask questions ahead of the tentative 2028 construction starts.
What Morningside Trails Residents Should Know Before Attending
The open house is scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 at the NBU Service Center. Because it is a come-and-go format, residents do not need to arrive at the beginning or stay for the full 90 minutes.
Anyone considering attending can review the City of New Braunfels' official open house notice and the city's 2023 Bond Program information beforehand.
For Morningside Trails residents, the meeting offers a practical way to follow New Braunfels transportation planning and ask questions about projects that are part of the city's long-term road network.
