New $40M H-E-B Grocery Store Set to Break Ground in Southeast Austin in 2026
Southeast Austin is getting a major grocery upgrade. H-E-B, one of Texas' most beloved brands and largest private employers, has announced plans for a brand-new store—H-E-B Grocery Store #825—coming to 7016 E William Cannon Dr, Austin, TX 78744, next to Hillcrest Elementary School. According to official permit filings, construction on the $40 million project is expected to begin in mid-July 2026, with completion projected towards the end of October 2027.
The upcoming H-E-B location will span over 115,000 square feet, providing residents in Southeast Austin with expanded access to fresh foods, household staples, H-E-B's signature Texas-made products, and community-focused services. The store will be privately funded and built on private land in Travis County, highlighting the company’s long-term commitment to serving and investing in the Austin area.
This new store will join the more than 455 H-E-B locations across Texas and Mexico, supported by a workforce of over 175,000 Partners—H-E-B's term for its employees. The company, which generates $50 billion in annual sales, has been a staple in the Lone Star State for 120 years and is headquartered in San Antonio.
H-E-B’s reputation is rooted in innovation, quality products, and low prices, but what truly sets it apart is its deep commitment to community service and sustainability. The company is frequently recognized for its environmental responsibility efforts and strives to provide the best customer experience through convenient services and local engagement. Today, H-E-B proudly serves millions of customers in more than 300 communities.
As H-E-B puts it, “We are a people company—we just happen to sell groceries.” That philosophy has shaped its growth since 1905, and continues to drive every expansion.

A Taste of Texas, Under One Roof
Shoppers can expect the new Southeast Austin store to feature all the beloved H-E-B staples Texans have come to rely on—from Creamy Creations® ice cream to Texas Pecan Café Olé® coffee. H-E-B’s in-house brands such as Hill Country Fare, Kitchen & Table, Cocinaware, and Central Market will bring everything from everyday essentials to gourmet finds under one roof.
In line with H-E-B’s push for sustainability and health, the store is also expected to stock a wide range of H-E-B Organics®, which now includes more than 490 USDA-certified organic items.
Economic Impact & Community Connection
Beyond just groceries, the new H-E-B is anticipated to become an economic and social anchor for the neighborhood. With its modern store design and ample square footage, the facility will likely house departments for fresh produce, meat and seafood, bakery, floral, pharmacy, and more.
Moreover, as with other new H-E-Bs across Texas, the store is expected to bring hundreds of local jobs to the community and partner with area nonprofits, schools, and local events.
H-E-B's philosophy has always emphasized deep community roots. Since its founding in 1905, the company has built a reputation for giving back—whether through disaster relief, food bank donations, honoring teachers, or supporting veterans and first responders. With every new store, H-E-B brings this same commitment to local involvement.
