LSC-CyFair Invites Active Adults to Unleash Your Inner Learner at ALL Program Open House

July 23 2024

Are you age 50 and better and want to boost your social calendar and make new friends? You belong in Lone Star College-CyFair’s Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) program and the Aug. 15 Open House is the first step to a year of adventure.

Browse the fall course catalog for the schedule now and then visit the LSC-CyFair ALL Open House set Aug. 15 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Conference Center (CENT) to learn more about the ALL offerings available in a variety of categories, such as arts and crafts, culinary arts, genealogy, health and fitness, hobbies and recreation, languages, music and theater, senior issues and technology.

ALL Program Coordinator Cyndi Seeberger said LSC-CyFair is continuing to build arts and crafts offerings with new classes, such as Introduction to Watercolors, Card Making, Crochet Rustic Pumpkins, Small Fabric Bags, plus a two-part Joy of Photography class. There’s variety of culinary arts/cooking classes to attend including Taste of Puerto Rico, featuring traditional Christmas dishes from the island and lively music to fill the air.

Among the new series of classes this October is The Art of Storytelling with Dawn Keller, from generations of Appalachian storytellers. Attendees will immerse themselves in high-adventure tales from her modern odyssey and a discussion of the power of stories to connect, inspire and bring laughter, as well as develop their own storytelling skills.

“We are also excited to offer Spanish for Travelers, a five-session class for beginners to learn basic Spanish while traveling abroad,” Seeberger said. “Our Travel and Culture presentations this fall will leave you feeling like you traveled to the Faroe Islands, the Cotswold English countryside, or the iconic sandstone formations in Arizona made famous by the Windows 7 wallpaper.”

Bring a friend to the open house to visit with instructors, register for classes and be first to sign up for the popular fall bus trips (seating is limited). In addition to reconnecting with former classmates and making new friendships, attendees can support LSC-CyFair’s students with a non-perishable food item for The Empowerment Center and a gently used book for the Friends of the Library bookstore.

For only a $25 membership fee, get a year of stimulating classes, social activities, skill development and personal growth opportunities. Other benefits include enjoying free or low-cost seminars and workshops available in person or online at any of the LSC campuses as well as discount pricing on performing arts events and access to college libraries. For details, go to LoneStar.edu/all.
