Lakes on Eldridge Swan Donation Drive: Community Rallies After Loss of Beloved Swan Toni

Lakes on Eldridge Swan Donation Drive: Community Rallies After Loss of Beloved Swan Toni

May 01 2026

For many Lakes on Eldridge residents, the neighborhood’s swans are more than just wildlife—they are part of the identity and charm that make the community feel like home. That sense of connection was shaken recently when a coyote entered the area and took the life of Toni, one of the neighborhood’s longtime swans.

Toni had been part of the Lakes on Eldridge community for seven years after being adopted from the San Antonio Zoo. For families who walk the lakes, children who stop to watch the swans glide across the water, and neighbors who take pride in the area’s natural beauty, the loss has been deeply felt.

Now, in a reflection of the neighborhood’s close-knit spirit, residents are coming together to restore what was lost.

Donation Drive Underway to Welcome a New Swan

A community-wide donation effort is currently underway to fund the purchase and introduction of a new swan to Lakes on Eldridge. The goal is simple but meaningful: to continue a tradition that has long been a defining feature of the neighborhood’s landscape and shared experience.

Residents who wish to contribute will have multiple opportunities to participate. A donation box will be available at the upcoming First Friday event, offering a convenient way for neighbors to give while connecting with one another. Contributions can also be made at any time through the Lakes on Eldridge clubhouse office.

Every donation—large or small—plays a role in helping the community move forward and reestablish a sense of continuity along its lakes.

Why the Swans Matter to Lakes on Eldridge

In neighborhoods like Lakes on Eldridge, amenities and natural features often shape more than just scenery—they influence property values, community pride, and daily quality of life. The presence of swans has long added to the peaceful atmosphere that draws residents outdoors and fosters connection among neighbors.

For many homeowners, the swans are part of what makes Lakes on Eldridge unique in the West Houston area. Their presence contributes to the neighborhood’s character, offering a quiet but meaningful reminder of the care invested in maintaining shared spaces.

Replacing Toni is not just about restoring a visual element—it’s about preserving a piece of the community’s identity.

What Residents Can Expect Next

As donations continue, community leaders will work to identify and welcome a suitable replacement swan. While no timeline has been formally announced, the effort reflects a broader commitment to maintaining the traditions and features residents value most.

In the meantime, the donation drive offers an opportunity for neighbors to come together—not just in response to loss, but in support of something that brings lasting joy to the community.

Residents are encouraged to participate during First Friday or stop by the clubhouse office to contribute.

As Lakes on Eldridge continues to grow and evolve, moments like this highlight the strength of community connection—and the shared commitment to preserving what makes the neighborhood feel like home.
