Lace Up for a Cause: Join Graeme's Run 2025 at No Label Brewing Co. in Katy to Support Congenital Heart Defect Research
Katy is preparing for a special occasion as the 10th Annual Graeme’s Run returns to No Label Brewing Co. on February 22, 2025. This annual event, which features a 5K run and 1-mile walk, continues to raise awareness and vital funds for congenital heart defect (CHD) research. The event honors the memory of Graeme McDaniel, a Katy resident whose life was tragically cut short by CHDs.
Graeme McDaniel was born on December 18, 2012, with severe congenital heart defects that required emergency surgeries. He fought valiantly but ultimately passed away in May 2015 at just two and a half years old. In the wake of their loss, Graeme's parents, Stephanie and Brian McDaniel, founded The Graeme McDaniel Foundation to raise awareness and support research into CHDs, which are the leading birth defect in the United States, affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies.

The Graeme McDaniel Foundation has been instrumental in raising money for CHD research, funding over $850,000 in the last three years alone. This includes hundreds of thousands of dollars for research at Children's Memorial Hermann and Texas Children's Hospital. In addition to funding research, the foundation supports heart families, helping them navigate the challenges of medical care and providing much-needed resources.
As part of their ongoing mission, the McDaniels organize Graeme’s Run every year to raise funds and increase awareness about CHDs. The event, which started with a small group of supporters, has grown significantly over the years. In 2024, the event saw nearly 1,800 attendees and raised over $196,000 for CHD research.
The 10th Annual Graeme’s Run promises to be another exciting and meaningful event. Registration opens at 7:30 AM, and the run starts at 8:30 AM on February 22, 2025. The event is family-friendly, with plenty of entertainment for all ages, including face painting, balloon art, free food, raffles, and a silent auction.
For those who want to be part of the event, it’s important to register early. Participants have until February 9, 2025, to secure their spot and guarantee a soft run shirt. While registration will remain open until race time, participants are encouraged not to wait to ensure they receive their shirt.
Team fundraising is also a great way to get involved. Teams that raise funds for the Graeme McDaniel Foundation can earn GMF swag and further contribute to this important cause. “We have been blown away by the support our community has given us through the foundation,” said Stephanie McDaniel, reflecting on the years of generous contributions from the local community. “We feel honored to support the heart community in this way.”
As Graeme’s Run celebrates its 10th year, the event serves as both a poignant remembrance of a young life lost and a beacon of hope for thousands of children affected by congenital heart defects. It’s a day when the Katy community comes together to honor Graeme’s legacy and support a cause that continues to save lives.
