Kroger Backpack Boosters Donates $380,000 in School Supplies to Local Districts, Including CFISD

August 22 2024

CFISD, along with seven other Greater Houston Area school districts, has been selected to receive an impressive donation from the Kroger Backpack Boosters, amounting to a collective $380,000 worth of school supplies. This generous provision was part of Kroger Backpack Boosters' annual school supply drive, an initiative dedicated to supporting underserved students in local school districts.

Customers of Kroger were offered a chance to contribute by purchasing a school supply kit or offering a small monetary donation at checkout. The kits purchased were then dispersed across pre-selected school districts, a process which resulted in Kroger donating 2,436 backpacks and 3,835 supply kits solely to CFISD.

Welcoming this generous contribution, Dawn Tryon, CFISD's director of community engagement, expressed her gratitude, stating, “As a recipient of the Kroger Backpack Boosters campaign, CFISD is so appreciative of this beautiful initiative that ensures all students are prepared for the first day of school.” She also extended a heartfelt 'Thank You' to all Kroger patrons who added a little extra to their bills, assisting CFISD students in these economically challenging times.

The school supply kits, available for purchase at a cost of $10, included a variety of essentials: a 70-page spiral notebook, a 100-page composition book, two pocket and brad folders, a dozen pre-sharpened yellow pencils, two black stick pens, a nylon pencil bag, two erasers, and a packet of 100 ruled white index cards. Donations were also accepted in cash denominations of $1, $3, or $5.

In addition to in-store sales, patrons were given the convenience of offering their support online during the checkout process for home deliveries or pickups.

Since its inception, the Backpack Boosters program has significantly expanded its reach, now covering an increased number of school districts with particularly higher rates of students in need.
