Klaus Brewing Company Announces Closure After Six Years of Crafting German-Style Beers

June 13 2024

In an unfortunate turn of events, Houston's Klaus Brewing Company near Jersey Village announced on June 11, 2024, that it would be shutting its doors, marking the end of an era that began in 2018. The brewing company had suffered a major mechanical failure earlier in February, and despite multiple attempts to repair the issues, the situation left the company at a crossroads.

Located at 10142 Jones Road, the Klaus Brewing Company was the brainchild of a group of family and friends, spearheaded by enthusiastic brewer Thomas Lemke. Their mission was to introduce German-style beers to a broad audience, from seasoned beer lovers to new enthusiasts. The name Klaus, signifying 'The People’s Victory', was chosen to reflect the multicultural experience of sharing great locally crafted beer in a welcoming environment.

The brewing company has been known for its high-quality ingredients shipped directly from Germany, which contributed to its stellar reputation and the Individual Award of "Texas Hefeweizen Brewery of the Year" at the 8th Annual New York International Beer Competition in 2019.

"The decision to close Klaus Brewing wasn't easy," a representative of the company expressed in the issued statement. "Unfortunately, neither repairing the malfunctioning system nor acquiring a replacement is financially viable for us."

Despite the setback, the brewing company is inviting everyone to join them one last time for a "Prost!" at their tap room or their outside beer garden for their regular live music, table games, food trucks and endearing company. Their final week will conclude with live music on Saturday, June 15, 2024, calling on everyone to share fond memories, bid farewell, and raise their glasses for one last toast.

"We would like to thank everyone that has believed in our vision and our products, notably our fantastic staff who have been with us through thick and thin since we opened," the representative continued. "Come out, share your fond memories, wish everyone well, and lift your glasses for one last Prost!"
