Katy Rice Harvest Festival Seeks Volunteers to Help Power One of the City’s Biggest Traditions

Katy / Fulshear  /  Katy / Fulshear
July 10 2026

The Katy Rice Harvest Festival may fill Historic Town Square with music, food, carnival rides and more than 100 vendors, but much of what visitors see during the two-day celebration depends on people working behind the scenes.

Organizers are now recruiting volunteers for the 2026 Katy Rice Harvest Festival, scheduled for October 10 and 11 in downtown Katy. Volunteers will help welcome guests, support vendors, oversee family attractions and keep one of the city’s largest annual traditions running smoothly.

For Katy area residents, the opportunity is about more than earning service hours or spending a day at the festival. The event helps generate more than $100,000 each year for scholarships and community grants, with net proceeds benefiting the Rotary Club of Katy and returning to local students, nonprofit organizations and charities.

Volunteer Opportunities Across the Festival

Volunteer assignments are expected to include ticket booths and entrance gates, AgVenture activities, the carnival, toddler zone, entertainment areas and vendor assistance. Additional roles may be assigned as festival needs are finalized.

The range of responsibilities makes the volunteer program accessible to high school students, families, coworkers, civic clubs and service groups. Organizers are seeking volunteers who are friendly, dependable and comfortable helping guests throughout the weekend.

Flexible morning, afternoon and evening shifts are available.

Saturday shifts are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 5 p.m., 5 to 9 p.m. and 9 to 11 p.m. Sunday shifts will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Most shifts are four hours, while the final Saturday shift is two hours.

Volunteer registration closes at 11:59 p.m. September 23, 2026.

A Festival Rooted in Katy’s History

The Katy Rice Harvest Festival celebrates the city’s agricultural heritage and the rice farming history that helped shape the Katy area. The 2026 event will take place at the newly redesigned Historic Town Square in front of Katy City Hall, located at 904 Avenue C.

The festival opens Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and continues Sunday, October 11, from noon to 6 p.m. Friday will be reserved for vendor setup, volunteer meetings and operational preparations.

Visitors can expect more than 100 vendor booths featuring handcrafted items, food trucks, live music, main-stage entertainment and the returning carnival. The weekend will also include a beer garden, interactive exhibits, an Agriculture Adventure Area and a toddler zone designed for younger children.

The updated downtown setting is intended to make it easier for guests to explore local businesses, reconnect with familiar vendors and spend time together in the heart of Katy.

Volunteer Perks and Appreciation

Volunteers will receive meals, snacks and cold drinks during the weekend. Each completed shift also comes with one raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes, with additional shifts providing additional entries.

Volunteers age 21 and older will receive one complimentary drink ticket for each shift worked, which may be used for a selected brew after the shift has ended.

A volunteer party is planned for October 3, one week before the festival. The gathering will give participants an opportunity to receive information, meet other volunteers and prepare for the weekend.

The volunteer application requests basic contact information, an emergency contact and a T-shirt size.

Parking and Festival Access

Organizers say improved traffic routes and expanded parking options are planned for the 2026 festival. Free shuttle service will be available between the Merrell Center and the festival grounds, and rideshare use is encouraged. Partner discounts are also expected to be offered for guests choosing rideshare transportation.

For volunteers, those access improvements may make it easier to arrive before a scheduled shift without adding to congestion around Historic Town Square.

How to Volunteer at the 2026 Katy Rice Harvest Festival

Residents interested in volunteering can register through the festival’s online Eventeny application before the September 23 deadline. Available shift totals will change as positions are filled, so groups hoping to serve together may benefit from registering early.

Whether participants are seeking school service hours, looking for a group volunteer project or simply wanting to take a more active role in a longtime Katy tradition, each shift supports an event designed to give back to the community.
