Voters across Katy ISD cast their ballots in the May 2025 Board of Trustees Election, and unofficial voting results suggest clear frontrunners in both contested positions. The election, held to fill Positions 1 and 2 on the Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees, drew widespread interest from residents who turned out at designated polling locations during Early Voting and on Election Day, held on May 3, 2025.
Unofficial Election Results: Position 1 and Position 2
According to preliminary vote counts, James Cross secured 58.06% of the vote in the race for Position 1, defeating current Board President Victor Perez, who garnered 41.94% of the vote.
In the race for Position 2, incumbent trustee Lance Redmon maintained a strong lead with 75.37% of the vote. Challenger Tammy Reed received 21.20%, while write-in candidate Kris Fields received 3.42%.

Board of Trustees: Role and Community Impact
The Katy ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven at-large members who serve staggered three-year terms. These trustees are responsible for establishing district policies, managing the superintendent’s performance, approving the budget, and ensuring compliance with state and federal education standards.
Trustees are elected by the community and are charged with representing all residents of the district, regardless of the geographic position for which they run. Board decisions impact over 90,000 students across the rapidly growing school district, which spans multiple municipalities in western Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties.
Who Are the Candidates?
James Cross, who appears to have won Position 1, is a retired Katy ISD principal and current Executive Director of the Southeast Texas Education Coalition. With decades of education leadership experience, Cross has been actively involved in mentoring programs, the Katy Education Foundation, and district bond committees.
Securing Position 2, Lance Redmon—a trustee since 2019 and lifelong Katy resident—has remained engaged with the community through youth sports, ministry, and education foundations. His extensive service with Katy ISD bond committees and Leadership Katy ISD helped strengthen his candidacy.

Victor Perez, the current board president, has served on the board since 2022 and is a retired financial executive. He has contributed to various district committees focused on policy, finance, and academic performance.
Tammy Reed, an educator and 14-year district resident, ran on a platform highlighting her background in English education and theatre, while Kris Fields, a recent district resident, brought a nonprofit leadership perspective and youth mentorship experience to the race.
