Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Celebrates 25 Years of Service to the Northwest Houston Community
On Dec. 18, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital will commemorate a milestone that speaks not only to its growth, but to the evolving health care needs of a thriving region. The hospital is celebrating its 25th anniversary—a moment that recognizes a quarter century of medical advancement, community service, and a commitment to high-quality care in northwest Houston.
When the hospital first opened in 2000, it was a modest facility with 68 beds and 47 physicians. Today, it stands as a major community medical center with more than 350 beds, a physician team exceeding 1,400, and a workforce of 2,600 employees who serve one of the fastest-growing areas in Greater Houston.

Over 25 years, the hospital’s footprint has expanded into a 52-acre campus comprised of four primary facilities—each serving a unique role in providing accessible, world-class care close to home. The North Pavilion houses inpatient and outpatient services, intensive care units, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization labs, emergency care, and its stroke center. The Women’s & Children’s Pavilion offers private labor and delivery suites, the Houston Methodist system’s only low-intervention midwifery birthing suites, a Level III NICU, and comprehensive breast care. The Centerfield Building brings together orthopedics, sports medicine, cancer services, rehabilitation, and outpatient surgery, while the Hargrave Medical Office Building is home to wellness programs, wound care, and numerous physician practices.
These expansions reflect how northwest Houston has changed—and how the hospital has changed with it. Families have grown, neighborhoods have expanded, and health care needs have become more complex. The hospital has become a trusted pillar for cancer care, neurology and neurosurgery, heart and vascular services, orthopedics, women’s health, and emergency medicine, drawing patients locally as well as from surrounding communities including Cypress, Tomball, Spring, and Jersey Village.
Along the way, Houston Methodist Willowbrook has received numerous recognitions for quality, patient safety, nursing excellence, and specialized care—among them Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, U.S. News & World Report rankings, advanced stroke center certification, and accreditations in bariatric surgery, breast imaging, and chest pain care. These honors speak to both clinical achievement and a continued focus on improving the patient experience.
Keith Barber, CEO of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and Houston Methodist senior vice president, reflected on the anniversary by sharing, “We’re proud to be leading medicine in northwest Houston for 25 years and to be part of a team that continues to advance our capabilities and care for our community. I look forward to all we will accomplish together in the years ahead.”

To honor the occasion, executive leadership and board members planted a commemorative tree on campus—symbolic of the hospital’s deep roots in the community and its focus on continued growth. This year’s anniversary celebrations also extended outward through a holiday partnership with local organizations. While the team originally set a goal to collect 25 bikes for 25 children, employees exceeded expectations, donating an impressive 250 bikes for families in need.
As northwest Houston continues to expand, Houston Methodist Willowbrook’s 25-year story is a reminder of how essential local health care access is to a community’s strength and resilience. For many residents, the hospital has been the place where babies were born, emergencies were treated, chronic illnesses were managed, and loved ones received lifesaving care. Its anniversary marks not only institutional progress, but the stories of thousands of families who have come through its doors.
