Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship Deadline Extended

January 15 2024

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) has extended the application deadline for their annual scholarship program benefitting high school seniors.

Since 1957, HLSR has proudly awarded nearly 20,000 scholarships valued at $275 million collectively. At its core, HLSR aims to empowering youth, fostering educational growth, broadening agricultural perspectives, and paying tribute to our trailblazing ancestors and their rich legacy. HLSR is currently supporting over 2,300 students through Rodeo scholarships who are attending more than 80 different Texas colleges and universities, representing a combined $50 million in scholarships.

This year’s application window opened on December 15, 2023, with the deadline extended to February 7, 2024. This year, the application process is completed entirely online. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited, not-for-profit Texas university, having met the minimum SAT or ACT score requirement. Applicants do not have to major in an agriculture-related field to apply, so long as they plan to pursue a major that culminates in a four-year degree. Awarded scholarships can also be utilized by students attending community or junior colleges, who plan to later transfer to a four-year institution.

The scholarship opportunities include different categories such as School Art, Exhibitor, and Hildebrand scholarships. An applicant's eligibility for these scholarships is determined by their participation in various programs and exhibits.

Following a firm commitment to impartiality, the scholarship recipients are chosen through a blind judging process. The applications are evaluated on academic achievement, exceptional leadership, and financial necessity. All applicants will receive notification of the decision via email, ensuring that everyone is kept in the loop.

Each scholarship is valued at a substantial $5,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, bringing the total value to $20,000. This generous sum is disbursed directly to the university or college of choice each semester to help cover tuition and fees.
