Honest Mary’s Opens in Austin’s Seaholm District With Scratch-Made Bowls and Build-Your-Own Meals
Downtown Austin residents, office workers and visitors now have another place to find a quick meal without giving up the fresh ingredients and flexibility they might expect from home cooking.
Honest Mary’s officially opened its new Seaholm District restaurant at 211 Walter Seaholm Drive, Suite 115, on July 15. Located next to Trader Joe’s and Merit Coffee, the Austin-born fast-casual restaurant serves signature grain bowls, build-your-own meals, sipping broths, children’s bowls, drinks and naturally sweetened almond butter cookies.
The restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. The Seaholm opening gives Honest Mary’s five locations across the Austin area, along with a River Oaks restaurant in Houston.
“It’s here… Honest Mary’s has officially landed in the Seaholm District, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you in,” the restaurant shared in its July 15 opening announcement.
A New Healthy Restaurant Option in Downtown Austin
The opening adds a health-minded dining option to a busy pocket of downtown Austin where residents, employees, trail users and visitors often need meals that can fit into different schedules and dietary preferences.
Honest Mary’s describes its approach as “life-giving, feel-good food,” with meals designed for anything from a quick weekday lunch to a slower dinner with friends or family. Guests can choose a prepared signature bowl or build a meal by selecting a protein, base, market sides, toppings and sauce.
“We’re ready to serve you real, honest food made from scratch every single day. Come hungry, come as you are, and let us take care of the rest,” the restaurant said in announcing the Seaholm opening.
That flexibility may be especially useful in Seaholm, a mixed-use downtown district near Lady Bird Lake, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail, apartments, offices and neighborhood retailers.
What Is on the Honest Mary’s Menu?
The Honest Mary’s Seaholm menu includes five signature bowls ranging from $10.25 to $15.75, along with several customizable options.
The Smoky Poblano combines basmati rice, wild arugula, sweet corn, pickled onions, Texas goat cheese, avocado, pumpkin seeds, creamy poblano sauce and lime. The Sedona Lime, identified as gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan, includes basmati rice, organic spinach, black beans, roasted sweet potatoes, pumpkin seeds and cashew lime crema.
Guests looking for meat or seafood can choose the Garlic Pepper Chimichurri with steak, spinach, rice, corn, charred broccoli, crispy chickpeas and chimichurri sauce. The Aloha Poke features wild-caught poke, basmati rice, avocado, Asian slaw, edamame, pickled onions, organic jalapeños, black sesame seeds and sesame vinaigrette.
The seasonal Garden Pesto bowl brings together wild arugula, tricolored quinoa, marinated asparagus, roasted beets, mozzarella pearls, cucumber salad and kale pesto. Another seasonal choice, the Honey Mustard Chicken, includes tender kale, wild rice, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes, organic apples, jalapeños and lemon garlic sauce.
Build-your-own bowl prices begin at $11.25 for the Farmers Market vegetable option. Bowls with baked tofu, chicken, steak or fresh poke are also available, as is an $8 children’s bowl that includes one protein, three sides and one sauce.
Bases include basmati rice, black forbidden rice, tricolored quinoa, organic spinach, wild arugula, wild rice and tender kale. Diners can add choices such as roasted sweet potatoes, black beans, curry-roasted cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, lentils, za’atar carrots, avocado, edamame, Texas goat cheese and crispy chickpeas.
The menu also includes organic chicken or seaweed-and-mushroom sipping broth, house-made aguas frescas, iced yaupon tea and a gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan almond butter cookie sweetened with maple syrup. Honest Mary’s offers online ordering, an app-based rewards program and catering for individual meals or customizable group service.
How Honest Mary’s Says Its Food Is Different
Honest Mary’s has built its identity around ingredients prepared in-house and from scratch. The company says it does not use artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or additives and relies on natural sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup and coconut sugar instead of refined sugar.
The restaurant reports that 82% of its menu is free from industrial seed oils, excluding its creamy poblano and lemon garlic sauces, and that all oils used in its kitchens are non-GMO. It uses the Environmental Working Group’s “Dirty Dozen” list to guide organic produce purchasing when cost and availability allow.
Honest Mary’s also says its tuna is wild-caught and that its chicken and steak come from animals raised without added hormones and without antibiotics unless medically necessary. The menu clearly identifies gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and seasonal selections, giving guests a quick way to sort through choices that may fit their needs.
“At our core, we believe food should energize, not weigh you down. Our goal is to create meals that feel as good as they taste—nourishing, bold, and rooted in real ingredients,” Honest Mary’s co-owner, chief operating officer and chef Andrew Wiseheart said.
An Austin Restaurant That Began at the Arboretum
Honest Mary’s traces its roots to 2017, when Nelson Monteith and his wife, Mary, opened the first location in Austin’s Arboretum area. The couple believed the city’s active, health-conscious residents had limited convenient options for freshly prepared meals that reflected the way they wanted to eat.
The brand later expanded to Rosedale, Mueller and Cedar Park. Wiseheart, a restaurateur associated with Contigo and Ladybird Taco, subsequently joined the company as co-owner, COO and chef. Honest Mary’s has since moved beyond Central Texas with its River Oaks restaurant in Houston.
Despite that growth, the company continues to center its public mission on improving lives and communities through nourishing food, genuine hospitality and care for both guests and employees.
For Seaholm neighbors and commuters, the new location means another nearby option for a family dinner, post-trail meal, downtown lunch, catering order or last-minute bowl on the way home. It also brings a locally founded restaurant into a district that continues to develop as both a residential neighborhood and a downtown gathering place.
