HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress Announces $100 Million Patient Tower Expansion to Enhance Care and Capacity

August 26 2024

HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress has unveiled plans to construct a brand-new, state-of-the-art patient tower. The project, estimated to cost $100 million, began in July and is expected to complete in Spring 2026, according to a release.

The new patient tower will bolster the existing facilities with an array of improvements such as an expanded Central Sterile Processing Department (CSPD), a 22-bed Acute Rehabilitation Unit, and a 31-bed Medical Surgical Unit. The potential for further expansion of this tower has also been hinted at to cater to the hospital's long-term growth plans.

The Acute Rehabilitation Unit will offer an advanced level of care to patients recovering from surgeries, injuries, or illnesses, providing comprehensive rehab services to aid patients in regaining their independence and improving their quality of life.

The newly introduced 31-bed Medical Surgical Unit will cater to patients requiring medical and surgical care, offering a tranquil, healing environment. This unit will augment the hospital's critical care services within the existing hospital setting.

To cater to the increased capacity, HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress also has plans to expand its parking facilities, ensuring user-friendly parking options for patients, visitors, and staff.

Jim Brown, the CEO at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, expressed his excitement about the project saying, "With 18 years of service to the Cypress area, we are thrilled to announce the construction of our new patient tower and are excited to expand to continue to meet the healthcare needs of this rapidly growing community."

This new addition will raise HCA Healthcare's reinvestment in the Cypress community to over $200 million since acquiring the hospital in 2018. Once the tower is complete, the hospital will expand to accommodate 216 licensed beds.

The project will be executed by HKS, Inc., the architectural firm, and PR Construction, the general contractors. Steel Fab, Neo Pods, MLN, Baker Triangle, Piper Electric, and Total Site are among the other key vendors and trade partners involved.

In addition to the new patient tower, Healthcare Realty, the owner of two professional buildings at HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, has embarked on a $30 million redevelopment project, marking a large-scale modernization of close to 300,000 square feet of medical office space.
