Hays CISD Cancels Weekend UIL Events Due to Winter Weather Concerns
In light of forecasted winter weather, Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) has announced the cancellation of all University Interscholastic League (UIL) sports and fine arts activities scheduled for Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25, 2026. The precautionary move comes amid concerns for student safety as colder temperatures and potential icy conditions sweep across Central Texas.
The district’s announcement affects a variety of student activities, including athletic competitions, band rehearsals, and theatrical performances. Some events may be rescheduled, and district officials are encouraging students and families to communicate directly with coaches, directors, and activity sponsors for any potential updates to event times or locations.
Meanwhile, not all student events have been officially suspended. Hays CISD noted that Future Farmers of America (FFA) events and Hays County Stock Show activities may still take place as planned on Saturday. Students involved in these agricultural and livestock events should check with their FFA sponsors or stock show organizers to confirm participation details.

With weather predictions continuing to evolve, the district emphasized that Monday, January 26, 2026, remains a regular school day. “While Monday is expected to be cold, road conditions are likely to be safe,” the district stated. “The district only sends weather messages when schedules change. So, unless additional messaging occurs during the weekend, Monday’s schedule remains normal.”
In a message aimed at providing clarity and flexibility for families, Hays CISD reminded the community that weather-related decisions are made on a systemwide basis. However, the district encourages parents and guardians to prioritize their own family's safety:
“If your family has individual concerns or circumstances that make conditions for you unsafe, choose safety first when considering travel to and from school.”
This weather alert comes as Central Texas braces for a sharp cold front, raising safety awareness and prompting school districts across the region to monitor conditions closely. Hays County residents are advised to stay updated via official district channels and local news sources for any further schedule changes or emergency notifications.
