Harris County Sheriff's Office Partners with Safe Kids Greater Houston to Enhance Child Passenger Safety
As part of a concerted effort to improve child passenger safety in Harris County, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office has formed a strategic partnership with Safe Kids Greater Houston, a community-based organization headed by Texas Children’s Hospital. The primary focus of this partnership is to address the rising concern of child safety in vehicular accidents, a leading cause of mortality among children.
In the first of a series of quarterly events across the county, a Car Seat Event will be held on November 1, 2024 at the HCSO Academy in Humble. The event aims to promote child passenger safety, offering easy access to expert car seat installation assistance from certified child passenger safety technicians along with education for families on proper vehicular restraint.

The statistics around car crashes are jarring: car accidents are a predominant cause of death among children. Yet, when car seats are correctly installed, they can curtail the risk of fatal injury by an astounding 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
This initial event will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and is free and open to the public. To learn more about road safety for children, visit nhtsa.gov/road-safety/child-safety.
