Harris County Public Health Promotes Community Engagement for a Healthier Future
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is stepping forward to amplify the voices of its residents, seeking their input in shaping the health and well-being of their community. Teaming up with the CONDUENT Healthy Communities Institute, HCPH has developed an inclusive community health survey aimed at understanding how locals perceive health status within their neighborhood.
Serving as the public health department for Harris County, HCPH has distinguished itself as an active force in the promotion of community health. Deploying a team of approximately 700 professionals, this agency provides an array of services aimed at protecting and promoting health, preventing disease and injury, and establishing a culture of equity and responsiveness within the health sector.
The new initiative invites county residents aged 18 and above to participate in the survey, offering them the option to be entered into a drawing to win one of twenty $100 grocery gift cards. Accessible in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Chinese, the online survey covers a multitude of crucial areas, including access to healthcare, mental and physical health concerns, social and economic factors impacting health, and residents' overall perception of community health.
Participants' contributions will not only shed light on the most pressing health concerns within the community but will also aid in the development of targeted programs and initiatives. Their input will act as a pivotal resource in measuring the impact of HCPH's work, strengthening partnerships with community organizations, and tracking progress within the public health domain.
The survey can also be accessed at various HCPH locations, including health services and mobile health clinics, and during several outreach events hosted by the organization. The agency also encourages participants to share the survey link within their network to amplify community voices and help in creating a healthier future for all.
The recent COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of public health and the critical need for comprehensive assessments that go beyond disease outcomes. In collaboration with CONDUENT Healthy Communities Institute, a team of public health professionals who understand the challenges of accessing high-quality data and cross-sector collaboration, HCPH is taking strides to explore the relationship between environments, behaviors, illness, and the length of life.
As they forge ahead in their mission to build healthier communities, the agency remains committed to transparency and inclusivity. Stay informed about what's happening in your neighborhood by participating in the survey, available through April 12, and help HCPH create a healthier Harris County.
