Harris County ESD No. 48 to Host Free CERT Class in March

February 24 2023

Starting March 27, the Harris County ESD No. 48 will host a spring installment of their CERT class. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is open to the public and gives trainees an opportunity to learn about important disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their community. Led by the Harris County Citizen Corps, this program helps to train volunteers in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

The Harris County Citizen Corps Council coordinates with volunteer groups such as the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the United Way, and Citizen Corps programs to identify volunteer opportunities. The Citizen Corps programs include the Community Emergency Response Team, the Neighborhood Watch Program, Volunteers in Police Service, Fire Corps and the Medical Reserve Corps.

Harris County Citizen Corps (HCCC) is committed to creating opportunities for people to volunteer to help our community prepare for and respond to emergencies. The primary goal is to have all citizens participate in making neighborhoods safer by providing them the tools and training needed for preventing and handling threats of terrorism, crime, and disasters of all kinds.

Classes will be held on Monday nights for 8 weeks from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Harris County ESD No. 48 Administration building, located at 21201 Morton Road in Katy. This program is free and trainees will receive a complimentary manual and starter backpack.
