Grand Oaks' Jaela Auguste Strikes Gold with USA Volleyball at U19 World Championship
Grand Oaks High School senior Jaela Auguste helped lead USA Volleyball to the 2023 FIVB U19 Girls World Championship in Crotia and Hungary.
Auguste is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, who has committed to continue her career at the University of Florida next year. After leading the Grizzlies to a share of the district title and earning All-Greater Houston honors last year, she is a consensus All-Greater Houston Preseason selection. Auguste ranked second in the state with a .524 hitting percentage, collecting 336 kills and ranking in the top 20 in Texas with 164 blocks.
USA Volleyball posted a perfect 9-0 record, rallying from an 0-2 deficit in the championship match to defeat Turkey in five sets. Team USA also had a five-set victory over Brazil in the quarterfinals and downed Italy in four sets in the semifinals. USA Volleyball also claimed the Pan American Cup in May.
