Goodcents Arrives in Katy: A Sandwich Shop with Heart and Family Values
Goodcents, the beloved sandwich and pasta franchise from the Midwest, has made its Texas debut in Katy, bringing fresh-made meals and a family-focused atmosphere to 2206 Katy Flewellen Rd E. Behind the store’s opening is Jax Johnson, a Kansas City native with a passion for great food, strong community ties, and a heart for creating meaningful connections.
The Katy Goodcents had a soft opening on December 20, with a Grand Opening set for January 8. The new Katy store marks an exciting milestone for Johnson and her family. “We knew this area needed more dining options, and it’s the perfect spot for both a neighborhood restaurant and catering hub,” said Johnson.
A Family’s Journey to Bring Goodcents to Texas
For Johnson, opening Goodcents is more than a business venture—it’s personal. She and her husband have been lifelong fans of the brand, a staple of their visits back to Kansas City. “Our family has picky eaters, but we all agree on Goodcents. It’s a must-have when we go back home,” she shared.
Johnson, who met her husband in high school, has always been a sports enthusiast. The couple, along with their three children, bring that same team spirit to their new business. Their eldest daughter, a recent graduate of the University of Houston, will serve as the store’s Marketing and Community Outreach Supervisor. Meanwhile, their middle son is preparing to take his first job at the family business, and their youngest—a self-proclaimed sandwich and pasta connoisseur—has already taken on the role of in-house food tester and part-time helper.
Before opening Goodcents, Johnson built a career in photography and the pet industry, experiences that shaped her customer-focused approach. “I’ve always cared about people more than the dollar. My goal is to create a sense of family in everything we do, from how we treat our employees to how we serve our customers,” Johnson explained.
What Makes Goodcents Special
Founded in 1989 by Joseph Bisogno, a seasoned entrepreneur with nearly a decade of experience at McDonald’s Corp., Goodcents began as Mr. Goodcents Subs & Pastas® in Lenexa, Kansas. With a vision to deliver quality and freshness, Bisogno’s creation quickly expanded to more than 80 locations nationwide, now making its debut in Texas.
At the Katy location, customers can enjoy signature sandwiches made with the brand’s famously soft bread, a recipe that sets Goodcents apart from competitors. The menu also features hearty pasta dishes like spaghetti with meatballs and creamy chicken Alfredo, fresh-to-go pasta meals perfect for busy days, and indulgent cookies, including a peanut butter option with Reese’s Pieces. “Our bread is the softest I’ve ever had, and our menu is unique—it’s not something you’ll find at other sandwich shops,” said Johnson.
Adding a personal touch to the store, a wall dedicated to Katy’s rich history creates a welcoming atmosphere for the community. The open design and simple ordering process further enhance the dining experience. Catering options, such as sub boxes, meatball slider kits, and individual lunch boxes, are also available, making Goodcents a go-to for teachers, healthcare workers, and professionals on the move.

The Katy location’s success is further fueled by its general manager, Jay, a former disc jockey for Sunny 99.1. Though new to the food industry, Jay brings exceptional leadership and a calm, approachable demeanor to the team. “Jay’s positive attitude and the way he treats both our staff and customers reflect the kind of environment we want at Goodcents,” said Johnson. His dedication has not only impressed the team but has also made him an integral part of the store’s growth and future success.
Goodcents Joins Katy's Business Community
Goodcents joined the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce last year, with a ribbon cutting ceremony coming up during their Grand Opening celebration. The Chamber’s Vice President of Business Development, Stacy Jacobs, expressed her support for the new addition to Katy. “Goodcents brings a fresh perspective and strong community values to our area. We’re thrilled to have them as part of the Katy business family,” Jacobs said.
For Johnson, the store is just the beginning. With plans to open a second location in Fulshear in the spring of 2025, followed by a third store in Katy, she envisions Goodcents as more than a place to grab a meal. She hopes it will become a hub for community initiatives, from hosting autism meetups to organizing dog rescue events.
“I want Goodcents to be a place where everyone feels at home,” Johnson said. “Whether it’s busing tables for customers who want to stay and chat or offering a smile to someone who needs it, we’re here to make a difference—one sandwich at a time.”
