George Memorial Library Offers Free After-School Homework Help for Fort Bend Families
Did you know families in Fort Bend County can now count on a valuable new ally in their children’s education—free after-school tutoring from certified teachers at George Memorial Library? The “Teacher in the Library” program, which officially began this fall, offers a welcoming space for students in grades 3 through 6 to receive personalized homework help—completely free of charge.
Located at 1001 Golfview Drive in Richmond, George Memorial Library now hosts two certified teachers Monday through Thursday, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Students can drop in anytime during those hours to get assistance with homework, test preparation, study habits, and research skills. No appointment is necessary, and there’s no limit to how often students can attend.
This local initiative is designed to reinforce classroom learning while boosting academic confidence for young learners. Whether a child needs help tackling a tough math problem or studying for an upcoming science test, the program offers a safe, supportive setting with one-on-one guidance from experienced educators.

Students are welcome to come as often as they like, and the library has designed the environment to be both accessible and comfortable. Snacks and bottled water are also provided, courtesy of the Friends of the George Memorial Library.
The program isn’t just about improving grades—it’s about building self-esteem and providing working families with a reliable, community-based academic resource. In today’s fast-paced world, many parents struggle to balance work schedules with the needs of school-aged children. This free tutoring service fills a vital gap, offering real-time, in-person academic support that can make a lasting difference.
The Teacher in the Library program was first introduced as a pilot at the Mission Bend Branch Library in 2023, followed by its expansion to the Missouri City Branch Library in 2024. With the successful launch in Richmond, George Memorial Library becomes the third Fort Bend County library to offer the service.

Library Director Roosevelt Weeks and Fort Bend County Judge KP George have both championed the program as part of the County’s broader efforts to support local education and community development. While the official kickoff celebration took place in August, the program continues to grow in reach and impact as more families discover the opportunity.
