From Rock Bottom to Rising Above: Clayton Townsend’s Path to Empowerment and Giving Back to His Tomball Community
Three years ago, that's what happened to Clayton Townsend, a Tomball native. He was at the lowest point of his life, in the depths of a six-year addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol while struggling to keep job and provide for his family. Today, Townsend is not only sober but thriving as a devoted father, husband, and production manager at Roof Top Innovations. His story is one of transformation, faith, and a relentless mission to help others find their way, embracing his journey with honesty and purpose. For him, it’s not about where he’s been—it’s about where he’s going and the lives he can help change along the way.
“I hit rock bottom and tried to take my own life because I thought I wasn’t stronger than my addiction,” Townsend shared. “But when I finally put my hands up, God put His hands down and started working.”
Faith, Family, and Finding Purpose
Townsend, a graduate of Klein High School, credits his wife as his greatest supporter, standing by him in his darkest moments. “She saved my life when I needed it the most,” he said. “She gave me a reason to be who I am today.” His journey to sobriety reshaped his entire perspective—his relationships, work ethic, and role as a father.
“Being a father means the world to me,” he said. “I realized early on that I need my kids probably more than they need me. They keep me grounded.”
His newfound faith has also played a significant role in his life, influencing not only his family but his children as well. “I found Jesus three years ago, and my kids found Him with me. Now, they demand we go to church every Sunday.”
A Career with a Mission
Townsend’s entry into the roofing industry came unexpectedly when he lost his corporate job, and Roof Top Innovations welcomed him with open arms. “It’s more than a company—it’s where broken men come to get put back together,” he said. “We’re all men of Christ, and a lot of us have years of sobriety. We lead with compassion and integrity.”
As a production manager, he finds joy in connecting with customers and hearing their stories. “Roofing is amazing, but I love the people aspect the most—hearing how they bought their first house, their dreams, their passions,” he said.
One of his proudest moments was organizing Roof Top Innovations’ Toys for Turkey event, where 500 turkeys were distributed to local churches, homeless shelters, and recovery centers. “Arnold, the owner, let me single-handedly design the whole event, and it even made the Houston Happens morning show!”
Now, Townsend has even bigger goals—he wants to help build Roof Top Innovations into a nationally recognized brand while leading his own team of men. “I want to help grow this company nationwide and create opportunities for others who need a fresh start, just like I did,” he said.

Giving Back and Building a Legacy
Beyond his work in roofing, Townsend dedicates his time to coaching youth sports and leading the special needs program at Tomball Little League. He also co-founded Ballin Dads, a clothing line focused on encouraging fathers to be present emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally.
“Our goal is to grow Ballin Dads so we can fund sober living homes, safe houses for sex trafficking victims, and homeless outreach programs,” he explained. “Houston is very overlooked when it comes to drug use and trafficking, and I want to change that.”
For those struggling with addiction, Townsend has a simple yet powerful message: “You are not alone. You are loved. You are stronger than anything coming your way. Be very vocal, and never lose faith in God.”
Looking ahead, he hopes to make a global impact on men’s mental health and sobriety, sharing his story through podcasts and speaking engagements. “Success used to mean getting my next fix. Now, success is coming home to my wife and kids every night, present and sober.”
