Free Weekly Yoga Class Brings Wellness to Nottingham Country Community
Each Monday morning at 9:00 AM, local yoga instructor Jeanne Wheat welcomes Nottingham Country residents of all ages and experience levels to a free outdoor yoga class at Rennie Park in the heart of Nottingham Country. The gathering has become a weekly tradition for neighbors looking to move their bodies, calm their minds, and connect with others in a peaceful setting.
“All are welcome,” says Wheat, who has been teaching yoga in the Katy area for years. “It’s a simple practice, outside in nature, with no pressure and no cost.”
The class takes place in a pavilion at Rennie Park, located at 821 Rennie Dr, Katy, TX 77450, and typically runs for about an hour. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or towel, water, and wear comfortable clothing. Whether you're a seasoned yogi or just beginning, the practice is intentionally gentle and accessible for everyone.
Yoga’s Growing Popularity and Health Benefits
Yoga has grown significantly in popularity across the United States in recent years. According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, over 34 million U.S. adults now practice yoga—a number that has more than doubled in the last decade.
Studies show that yoga can help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve balance, and ease symptoms of anxiety and depression. It’s also been shown to improve flexibility and strength, especially when practiced regularly. Outdoor yoga, in particular, offers additional mental health benefits thanks to its connection with nature.

“Yoga is not just about physical movement—it’s about tuning in and being present,” Wheat says. “That’s something we can all use a little more of, especially with how busy life gets.”
A Gentle Invitation to Nottingham Country
The free yoga sessions at Rennie Park are more than just a workout—they’re an invitation to slow down and recharge, surrounded by the trees and serenity of one of Nottingham Country’s most beloved green spaces. Wheat, who also goes by her Sanskrit name Janaki, leads the class with a focus on breathwork, mindfulness, and foundational poses designed to restore balance and flexibility.
Each session is designed to meet students where they are, making it approachable for beginners while still enriching for seasoned practitioners. For those who have questions or want to confirm class status in case of rain, Wheat can be reached at 281-686-0929 or by email at janaki108@me.com.
As the weeks go by, Wheat hopes more neighbors will join in, whether they stay for the full hour or simply want to observe and breathe.
“It’s a gift to be able to offer this to the community,” she says. “There’s healing in movement, and healing in togetherness.”
