Free Flu Shots in Harris County Precinct 4: Commissioner Lesley Briones and Partners Help Families Stay Healthy This Winter

November 20 2025

As the fall-to-winter flu season intensifies, Harris County Precinct 4 residents, including those in Lone Oak, have access to free flu vaccines thanks to a coordinated community health initiative led by Commissioner Lesley Briones. In partnership with Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and Harris Health, free immunizations are now being offered at multiple Precinct 4 community centers, with clinic dates scheduled through late December.

The campaign comes at a crucial time, as the CDC reports that influenza activity is increasing nationally. According to the CDC's 2025-2026 flu season data, more than 2.1 million flu illnesses and 1,300 flu-related deaths have already been reported in the U.S. this season. Health officials warn that with a new flu variant circulating and holiday travel picking up, the risks of flu-related complications are higher—especially for young children, older adults, and people with underlying health conditions.

“Getting a flu shot is the most effective way to protect yourself and your loved ones,” Commissioner Lesley Briones said in a public service announcement. “With the holidays around the corner, we want our community to stay healthy and safe.”

Local Access to Preventive Care

The free flu vaccine clinics are being hosted at several convenient locations throughout the district, including Bayland, Radack, Burnett Bayland, and Tracey Gee community centers. Some clinics also offer additional services like wellness exams and children’s immunizations, providing wraparound care to residents of all ages.

Fighting Flu in a Critical Season

According to the CDC, annual flu vaccination helps prevent thousands of hospitalizations and deaths each year. In fact, during the 2022–2023 season, flu vaccination prevented an estimated 2.9 million illnesses, 1.9 million medical visits, 28,000 hospitalizations, and 1,700 deaths. For this current season, early CDC surveillance also shows flu-related hospitalizations have started earlier than in typical years, underscoring the urgency of vaccination.

Commissioner Briones emphasized that her office aims to provide equitable access to health care for all families in Harris County, especially in Precinct 4. By removing barriers to flu shots and bringing vaccines directly into neighborhoods, her team aims to reduce health disparities and help communities avoid preventable illness this winter.

This health outreach is also part of a broader initiative at Precinct 4 centers to provide essential services year-round. In addition to flu shots, services available at participating centers include dental care, telehealth consultations, teen health appointments, HIV/STI testing, and wellness exams.

Stay safe. Get vaccinated. Help keep our communities flu-free this holiday season.
