Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels Delivers Holiday Cheer to Nearly 1,100 Homebound Seniors
The spirit of giving is alive and well in Fort Bend and Waller counties, as Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS) celebrates the successful completion of its 17th Annual Secret Santa for Seniors campaign. This year’s initiative met its goal in full, ensuring that every one of the nearly 1,100 homebound seniors served by the organization will receive a holiday gift.
“For the 17th year, we are able to continue this meaningful tradition,” said FBS Executive Director Doug Simpson. “Each gift brings a moment of joy and a reminder to our seniors that they are remembered and valued. For some, it’s the only gift they receive—and nearly 35% of the seniors we serve live alone. These gifts will be delivered along with their regular Meals on Wheels deliveries, bringing a little extra cheer right to their doorstep.”

The annual campaign invited community members to “adopt a senior” by donating a set of new bath towels along with a small personal care item such as a 2026 wall calendar, body lotion, soap, or slip-proof socks. Volunteers also stepped up to assemble and prepare the gifts for delivery. The community’s response was described by organizers as “overwhelming,” and couldn’t have come at a more critical time
Beginning in 2026, Fort Bend Seniors will face a more than 50% cut in federal funding, making community support more important than ever in helping the organization fulfill its mission.

Founded in 1974, Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels is the only organization in Fort Bend and Waller counties that provides free daily home-delivered meals and support services to seniors aged 60 and older. In addition to providing hot, nutritious meals, the nonprofit offers daily wellness checks and opportunities for social engagement, helping ensure that no senior is left hungry or isolated. Many of the seniors served live alone, face mobility challenges, or lack access to transportation.
The Secret Santa campaign is one of several annual efforts by FBS to bring joy and connection to seniors who might otherwise spend the holidays in solitude. These small but meaningful gifts serve as reminders that the community hasn’t forgotten them.
