Fort Bend County Seeks Public Input for 2025–2029 Housing and Community Needs Plan

June 11 2025

Fort Bend County residents have a powerful opportunity to help guide how federal funds will support local housing, infrastructure, and community services over the next five years. The Fort Bend County Community Development Department (CDD) has officially launched its 2025–2029 Housing and Community Needs Survey, an essential step in forming the county’s upcoming Consolidated Plan.

A Blueprint for Federal Investment

The five-year Consolidated Plan serves as a strategic blueprint that determines how federal funds—such as the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)—will be used to strengthen communities. These programs support essential services and infrastructure projects targeting low-to-moderate income residents, individuals experiencing homelessness, people with disabilities, and other special populations.

To ensure the plan reflects the community's real needs, the CDD is encouraging all Fort Bend County residents to complete the brief, anonymous online survey by Friday, June 13, 2025.

What the Survey Covers

The 10–15-minute survey asks about a range of key issues affecting daily life across the county:

  • Housing: Questions explore homeownership status, housing affordability, property conditions, and barriers to stable housing.

  • Community Infrastructure: Residents can rate the condition of roads, sidewalks, drainage systems, street lighting, and public buildings.

  • Public Services: Input is collected on access to services like job training, youth and senior programs, healthcare, and public transit.

  • Special Populations: The survey invites feedback on the adequacy of resources for individuals facing homelessness, disabilities, or chronic illness.

  • Demographics: Basic, anonymous demographic information is gathered to ensure responses represent the county’s diverse population.

  • Final Feedback: An open-ended section lets participants share any other concerns or priorities not covered elsewhere.

Why Community Input Matters

Public participation is at the heart of an effective Consolidated Plan. Fort Bend County officials emphasize that local voices will directly influence future investment decisions, helping determine which services and projects are prioritized over the next five years.

By identifying gaps in housing, public infrastructure, and service delivery, the county aims to promote equity and ensure federal dollars go where they’re needed most.

Who Should Participate?

All residents of Fort Bend County—whether homeowners, renters, service providers, or community advocates—are urged to take the survey. It is confidential, user-friendly, and accessible online. The results will shape how the county allocates millions in federal funding.

County Commissioners and community partners are encouraged to share the survey widely with constituents, neighborhood associations, civic groups, and local nonprofits to gather diverse perspectives from across all precincts.
