Fort Bend County Residents Urged to Check Fireworks Rules This New Year’s Eve

Fort Bend County Residents Urged to Check Fireworks Rules This New Year’s Eve

December 25 2025

Fort Bend County removed its burn ban on December 4, 2025, following improved weather and ground conditions. However, county officials and fire authorities stress that fireworks safety remains a concern as New Year’s Eve celebrations approach, particularly in residential areas like Westheimer Lakes where homes, fences, and landscaping are in close proximity.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), fireworks-related fires often occur when celebrants underestimate how far sparks can travel or how quickly wind conditions can change. Even a brief gust can redirect burning debris onto dry grass, rooftops, or nearby structures, leading to preventable fires in neighborhoods across the county.

Fireworks can be a fun way to celebrate, but a few smart precautions can make a meaningful difference. Westheimer Lakes residents are urged to use fireworks only where they are legal and to choose a clear, open area away from buildings, vehicles, and dry vegetation. Fire officials also recommend that adults handle all fireworks and that eye protection be worn to reduce the risk of injury. Any fireworks that fail to ignite should be left alone and then soaked with water before being safely thrown away.

Fireworks safety reminders include:

  • Keep a water source or fire extinguisher close by
  • Never relight a firework that doesn’t go off
  • Avoid using fireworks near pets or crowded areas
  • Dispose of used fireworks safely by fully wetting them
  • Check local burn bans and weather conditions before lighting

Westheimer Lakes residents are also reminded to check HOA governing documents and city ordinances, as fireworks are prohibited in many Fort Bend County neighborhoods and municipalities regardless of county burn ban status.

As the community heads into the new year, officials encourage residents to prioritize safety, courtesy, and awareness of local regulations, helping ensure celebrations remain enjoyable for neighbors and emergency responders alike.
