Maud Smith Marks Branch Library is kicking off February 2026 with an inspiring lineup of free programs designed to bring together the Katy community through storytelling, learning, and creativity. Located at 1815 Westgreen Blvd, just a few minutes from Cimarron, this beloved branch of the Harris County Public Library system continues to be a trusted hub for enrichment, culture, and connection.
Serving the greater Katy area since 1993, the Maud Marks Branch Library is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and diverse offerings, from high-tech maker tools to welcoming spaces for every age. With a focus on literacy, lifelong learning, and accessibility, the library remains a cornerstone of the Cimarron neighborhood and beyond.

Special Community Events
This month brings two standout programs celebrating both history and storytelling. On Saturday, February 14 at 2 PM, bestselling author Saadia Faruqi will visit Maud Marks to discuss her new middle-grade novel, Some of Us Are Brave, set during Hurricane Harvey. Families are encouraged to attend this meaningful event, with registration and book giveaway details coming soon.
In honor of Black History Month, the library will host I Colori dell’Opera’s live performance, Beyond Emancipation: The History of Black History Month, on Saturday, February 21 at 2 PM. This immersive event blends music, poetry, and storytelling into one powerful hour that’s perfect for all ages.
Tech & Maker Workshops
For those interested in hands-on learning, the 3D Printer Orientation is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 6–8 PM, while the Laser Cutter Orientation takes place Friday, February 20, 4–6 PM. These sessions offer training on how to use the library’s cutting-edge equipment and unlock access to other maker resources across HCPL branches. Advance registration is required.

- Wednesday Wonders (Grades K–5): Crafts on Feb. 4 & 18, LEGO on Feb. 11, and STEAM fun on Feb. 25, all from 4:30–5:30 PM
- Reading to Dogs with Paws for Therapy: Saturday, February 14, 11 AM–12 PM (sign-up required 30 minutes early)

Adult Enrichment & Travel Opportunities
On Tuesday, February 10 at 2 PM, adults can enjoy a DIY Braided Velvet Headband Workshop—a chance to make a thoughtful gift or try something new. Registration is required.
The library’s “Booked This Afternoon” book club will meet on Thursday, February 12 at 2 PM to discuss Harlem Rhapsody by Victoria Christopher Murray.
For seniors 55+, Timeless Travelers will take a free field trip to the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum on Thursday, February 17. Registration for this enriching day trip runs from February 2–7.
