East Central ISD’s $50.55 Million Elementary School No. 11 Moves Toward 2028 Opening in Southeast San Antonio

Families in southeast San Antonio are getting a clearer picture of the next school planned to serve East Central ISD’s growing southern communities.

ECISD Elementary School No. 11 is planned at 8950 Peregrine Falcon in San Antonio, with construction currently scheduled to begin Nov. 2, 2026, according to a Texas architectural barriers project filing. The filing lists completion for May 31, 2028, putting the project on track for East Central Independent School District’s planned fall 2028 opening.

For families living near Hildebrandt Road and across the district’s southern growth corridor, the project is more than another construction site. East Central ISD says the new PK-5 campus is intended to relieve enrollment pressure at Harmony Elementary and Oak Crest Elementary while adding room for hundreds of children expected as residential development continues across the area.

What Is Planned for ECISD Elementary School No. 11?

The state project filing describes Elementary School No. 11 as a new, partially two-story educational building totaling about 98,700 square feet.

Plans call for general academic classrooms and spaces for special education, along with a library, gymnasium, dining area and kitchen, administrative offices and other support spaces. Outside, plans include a playfield, playgrounds and outdoor learning areas.

The state filing lists an estimated construction cost of $40 million. That figure should not be confused with the district’s overall $50.55 million allocation for Elementary School No. 11 under East Central ISD’s voter-approved 2025 bond program. The two numbers represent different project accounting figures, with the district’s bond allocation covering the broader school project while the state registration lists an estimated cost associated with the construction filing.

East Central ISD says the finished campus is expected to serve about 900 students. The district’s project information describes the school as approximately 95,000 square feet, while earlier district planning materials called for elementary campuses of about 98,000 square feet with space for up to 910 students.

New School Is Part of East Central ISD’s Response to Rapid Growth

Elementary School No. 11 is one piece of a much larger effort to keep school capacity in step with residential growth across East Central ISD.

District voters approved a $309.15 million bond program in 2025 to fund a new comprehensive high school and two additional elementary schools. Of that amount, $50.55 million was designated for Elementary School No. 11 on the district’s south side. Elementary School No. 10, planned for the north side, received $49.73 million, while $208.87 million was allocated for the new high school.

The district has said new housing construction is a major driver of enrollment growth. A demographic study cited by ECISD found that new development could add roughly 600 to 1,500 students annually during the first five years of growth, depending on the pace of home construction. Earlier district projections also anticipated thousands of additional students entering East Central ISD by the end of the decade.

That growth is already influencing where students attend school. Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, East Central ISD adjusted several attendance boundaries to better balance enrollment, including moving some students from Oak Crest and Harmony elementary schools to the newly opened Victory Elementary.

Harmony and Oak Crest Are Central to the Need

The southern elementary school was specifically planned to address crowding at Harmony Elementary and Oak Crest Elementary.

During the planning process for the 2025 bond, East Central ISD said both campuses were expected to reach roughly 120% of their designed capacity, with more than 1,000 students at each school. The district identified Elementary School No. 11 as a way to create additional classroom space while giving administrators more flexibility as neighborhoods continue to grow.

The district has faced similar pressure elsewhere. Its 2025 bond planning projected Harmony Elementary alone could surpass 1,400 students by fall 2027 without additional capacity.

For nearby families, that makes the new campus particularly significant. New schools can lead to future attendance-boundary changes, shorter or different transportation routes and shifts in which neighborhoods feed into individual elementary campuses. East Central ISD has not yet announced final attendance boundaries for Elementary School No. 11.

A Campus Designed for the Next Generation of ECISD Students

The school is also expected to reflect the design approach East Central ISD has been using for its newer campuses.

District planning documents for its newest elementary schools call for dozens of classrooms as well as specialized spaces for life-skills instruction, science, computer learning and fine arts. Earlier bond materials described each new elementary campus as being designed for a usable lifespan of approximately 50 years.

That long-term planning matters in a district where new neighborhoods are continuing to bring more families into the area.

East Central ISD has already opened Honor Elementary through its 2022 bond program, while Victory Elementary STEM Academy opened for fall 2026. Valor Middle School also opened in fall 2026, and additional bond-funded projects remain underway across the district.

Elementary School No. 11 will continue that expansion on the south side.

What Happens Next for Elementary School No. 11?

If the current project schedule holds, construction is expected to begin in November 2026 and continue through spring 2028, followed by the district’s planned opening in fall 2028.

As construction progresses, families will eventually be watching for several important details that have not yet been finalized publicly, including the school’s permanent name, principal and staff appointments, attendance boundaries, transportation plans and enrollment procedures.

For now, the filing at 8950 Peregrine Falcon represents another visible sign of how quickly this part of southeast San Antonio is changing — and how East Central ISD is trying to build school capacity before today’s new neighborhoods become tomorrow’s overcrowded campuses.

My Neighborhood News will continue following ECISD Elementary School No. 11 and other East Central ISD construction projects as new information, timelines and attendance details become available.
