Dog Days of Summer Returns to Lone Star College-CyFair Library with Family Fun, Crafts and Dog Adoption Events This July
For many families, summer is about finding ways to stay engaged, learn something new and spend quality time together. This July, Lone Star College-CyFair Library is giving Cypress-area residents a chance to do all three—with a little help from some four-legged friends.
The library's month-long Dog Days of Summer celebration will bring a variety of dog-themed programs, educational workshops and family activities to the Cypress campus throughout July, culminating in a special community event featuring adoptable dogs from a local rescue organization.
Designed for children, teens, adults and lifelong dog lovers alike, the series offers everything from story times and crafts to pet training education and hands-on activities. The program reflects the growing role libraries play as community gathering spaces where learning extends far beyond bookshelves.
A Month of Dog-Themed Learning and Fun
The Dog Days of Summer lineup begins July 11 with Tales to Tails, a 2 p.m. activity for children in kindergarten and older.
On July 14, tweens can participate in Paper Embroidery – Dog Card, offered at 1 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m. Earlier that day, adult pet owners can attend the INSPIRE Workshop: Positive Training for People and Pets at 11 a.m., providing practical guidance for building positive relationships with their dogs.
Teen-focused programming follows on July 16 with a pair of creative activities. Participants ages 13 and older, accompanied by an adult, can create an Embroidered Dog Bandana in the Makerspace. Later in the day, teens can also make their own embroidered dog-themed greeting cards.
Many of the programs combine creativity, learning and hands-on experiences, making them an appealing option for families looking for free or low-cost summer activities in Cypress.
All Dog Day Brings Adoption Opportunities and Family Activities
The celebration wraps up July 25 with All Dog Day, a family-friendly event featuring activities throughout the day.
The schedule includes:
Family Story Time at 10:30 a.m.
Families can enjoy dog-themed stories and interactive learning designed for younger children.
Stuffy Pawrade at 11:30 a.m.
Participants can decorate a float, create a balloon dog and join a playful parade through the library.
Pupper Person Pawty from Noon to 2 p.m.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs from Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue and learn more about pet adoption. For some families, it could be the start of a new lifelong friendship.
Jurassic Bark Treat Lab at 2 p.m.
Attendees can make easy, no-bake dog treats during this hands-on activity designed for dog lovers of all ages.
More Than a Summer Program
While the events are centered around dogs, the broader goal is community connection. Programs like Dog Days of Summer create opportunities for families, children and pet owners to learn together, meet neighbors and engage with local organizations.
The pet adoption event also gives local rescue groups a chance to introduce their dogs to families who may be ready to welcome a new companion into their home.
What Families Need to Know
Many children's, tween and teen activities require a ticket or advance sign-up, available beginning 30 minutes before each program.
Residents can find complete event details and additional Dog Days of Summer programming on the Lone Star College-CyFair Library events calendar at cflib.info/events.
