Dekaney High School Senior to Receive Surprise $100K Scholarship from APQC
A graduating senior from Dekaney High School will receive a life-changing surprise on Tuesday, March 21, as he receives a surprise $100,000 scholarship from APQC (American Productivity & Quality Center) to attend a college or university of his choice.
The student, who will be revealed in a special presentation on Tuesday, has a 4.0 GPA and is hoping to eventually work in tech. He has faced challenges growing up, with his family struggling financially. In addition to attending school full time, he works 20 to 30 hours a week to help his family make ends meet. He is also active in many school activities and clubs.
The senior, who is one of only four students awarded the scholarship, will be presented with a $100,000 check during school in a surprise classroom takeover event that will feature the student’s family, school counselors, Spring ISD officials, and APQC team members.
This is the second year for the program, which awards four $100,000 scholarships annually.
The scholarship program is intended to change the lives of young individuals and their families for years to come. The applicant pool includes five counties in the Houston area and focuses primarily on financial need, followed by leadership skills demonstrated throughout their school career.
In addition to the scholarship funds, APQC will be offering paid summer internships, mentoring, and skill development to help the recipients be successful in pursuing their education and careers. APQC is the world’s foremost authority in benchmarking, best practices, process and performance improvement, and knowledge management.
