Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Annual Free Watermelon Giveaway returns to Atkinson Farms Produce in Spring on Tuesday, July 14, giving local families a simple way to cool off, meet deputies and take part in a summertime tradition rooted in the community.

The free community event begins at 10:00 a.m. at Atkinson Farms Produce, located at 3217 Spring Cypress Road in Spring. Families may receive one free homegrown watermelon per household while supplies last.

No County funds will be used for the event.

A Simple Summer Tradition for Spring, Klein and Cypress Families

There are few things that feel more like a Texas summer than a cold watermelon on a hot July day. For residents in Spring, Klein, Cypress and nearby Harris County neighborhoods, this annual giveaway offers something practical, familiar and neighborly at the same time.

The event is meant to help families stay hydrated and beat the summer heat while creating a relaxed opportunity for residents to meet Constable Herman and his deputies. Instead of a formal public meeting or an emergency call, this is a chance for neighbors to stop by, say hello and connect with the local law enforcement officers who serve the area.

That kind of face-to-face contact matters in a fast-growing part of Harris County, where new families continue moving into established and developing neighborhoods. Small community events like this help keep local connections strong, even as the area changes.

Why Atkinson Farms Is the Right Place for a Hometown Giveaway

The location is part of what gives the giveaway its hometown feel.

Atkinson Farms Produce has been a familiar stop on Spring Cypress Road for generations of area residents. Long before much of the surrounding area filled in with subdivisions, schools, shopping centers and busier roads, Atkinson Farms was already part of the local landscape.

The family farm is known for fresh seasonal produce and a direct connection to the land in a community that has grown quickly around it. Many residents know Atkinson Farms from picking up strawberries, vegetables, watermelons and other farm-grown produce, while others know it simply as one of those places that gives Spring a sense of history and character.

Hosting Constable Mark Herman’s Free Watermelon Giveaway at Atkinson Farms Produce keeps the event rooted in the community. It connects neighbors with a local farm, a local summer tradition and the deputies who serve Spring, Klein, Cypress and surrounding Harris County neighborhoods.

A Chance to Meet Constable Mark Herman and Deputies

Constable Herman’s office described the giveaway as one way to help the community stay hydrated, beat the summer heat and give back to the citizens they proudly serve.

Residents who attend will have the opportunity to meet Constable Mark Herman and his deputies in person. For families with children, that informal setting can make local public safety officers feel more familiar and approachable. For longtime residents, it is another reminder that community policing is often built through small, everyday interactions.

To participate, there is no ticket required, and there is no cost to attend. Families can come by, pick up a free watermelon while supplies last and enjoy a brief summer stop at one of Spring’s best-known local farms.
