Cimarron Families Should Watch Katy ISD’s Aug. 24 Meeting as Budget, Tax Rate and Health Plans Take Center Stage

August 19 2026

For families in Cimarron, the next Katy ISD Board of Trustees meeting is more than another date on the district calendar. Trustees are preparing to consider the school district’s 2026-27 budget, hear public input on the proposed budget and tax rate, review employee health plan options and take up several other items that can shape how Katy ISD operates during the new school year.

The Katy Independent School District Board of Trustees Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, at the Katy ISD Education Support Complex, ,located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane in Katy. The open meeting begins at 5 p.m., and residents who cannot attend in person can watch through Katy ISD’s free Board Meeting Livestream.

For a community zoned to Katy ISD, the meeting offers residents a closer look at how district leaders plan to allocate resources, set priorities and fund schools for the year ahead.

Katy ISD Proposed Budget and Tax Rate Headline the Agenda

One of the meeting’s most consequential portions for Cimarron homeowners, parents and taxpayers is a scheduled public hearing on the 2026-2027 Proposed Budget and Tax Rate.

Trustees will receive a presentation on the proposal and then hear public input. Later in the meeting, the Board is scheduled to consider approval of Katy ISD’s official 2026-27 budget.

The agenda does not list the proposed tax rate or total budget figures, meaning residents interested in those details will want to review the supporting agenda documents when they become available. Katy ISD states that agenda documents will be available through BoardDocs after midnight Friday before the meeting.

The budget discussion matters because the district’s annual spending plan touches nearly every part of the school experience — from staffing and classroom resources to student programs, operations and other district priorities. The tax-rate portion of the hearing is also particularly relevant for local property owners who want to understand how Katy ISD’s financial decisions fit into their overall property-tax picture.

Final 2025-26 Budget Changes and Fund Balance Also Up for Consideration

Before moving fully into the new fiscal year, trustees are scheduled to consider several items involving Katy ISD’s finances.

The consent agenda includes the June 2026 financial reports, the proposed 2025-26 Final Amended Budget and a resolution to commit and assign fund balance.

Trustees will also consider the district’s 2026-27 State Compensatory Education funding and other End-of-Course Assessment funding budget, as required by House Bill 5.

Together, those items provide a broader picture of how the district is closing out one budget year while setting financial priorities for the next.

Katy ISD Employee Health Plans, Homebound Services and Board Procedures

Several other consent items could have implications for employees, students and district governance.

Trustees are scheduled to consider health plan options for Plan Year 2027, along with a Remote Homebound Waiver and updated Board Operating Procedures.

The Board will also consider approval of minutes from its July meetings.

Although some of these items may sound administrative, their impact can reach into schools and households across the district. Employee benefits can affect Katy ISD’s workforce and recruitment efforts, while homebound services are particularly important for students whose medical circumstances prevent them from attending school in a traditional setting.

New Katy ISD Library Books on the Agenda

Another item likely to interest parents and families is listed under information items: Board approval of the acquisition of new library books.

The agenda itself does not identify the individual titles being considered. Additional information is expected to be included in the supporting BoardDocs materials.

Trustees are also scheduled to receive a recap of Board member requests for information.

For families in Cimarron, reviewing those supporting materials ahead of the meeting can provide a clearer picture of what is being proposed before trustees discuss or act on individual items.

Jordan High School Band to Perform National Anthem

The meeting will begin with the pledges of allegiance led by a Katy ISD police officer, followed by a performance of the National Anthem by members of the Jordan High School Band.

The Board is also scheduled to receive a report from the Katy ISD Council of PTAs Presidents.

Those portions of the meeting offer a reminder that district governance extends beyond budgets and policy documents. Students, parents, educators, volunteers and campus organizations all have a place in the broader Katy ISD community represented during Board meetings.

How Katy ISD Residents Can Speak at the Aug. 24 Board Meeting

Residents who want to address trustees during public comment must sign up in advance.

To participate, speakers must email publicspeakers@katyisd.org by 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24. The email must include the speaker’s first and last name, mailing address, the number of each specific agenda item the speaker plans to address, whether the speaker resides in Katy ISD and whether the speaker has children attending Katy ISD schools.

The agenda states that people who do not register by the deadline with the required information will not be called to speak.

Public comment is expected near the beginning of the meeting, at about 5 p.m., and includes opportunities for comments on both posted agenda items and non-agenda items. Participation remains subject to Katy ISD Board Policy BED.

For residents who have concerns about the budget, taxes, school resources, district operations or another Katy ISD issue, public comment provides a direct avenue to put those concerns before elected trustees.

Closed Sessions and Student-Parent Grievance

The Board agenda includes two closed-meeting portions.

The first allows trustees to consult privately with the Board’s attorney under provisions of the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Later, trustees are scheduled to conduct and consider a Level Three FNG grievance, FNG 25-063, involving student and parent complaints or grievances. Because the matter could involve personally identifiable student information and personnel-related issues, the deliberation is scheduled for closed session under applicable sections of the Texas Government Code.

After reconvening in open session, the Board is scheduled to consider the grievance before adjournment.

What Happens Next for Katy ISD?

The Aug. 24 meeting is followed closely by several additional Board meetings as Katy ISD moves into the 2026-27 school year.

A Special Board Meeting is scheduled for Aug. 31, followed by a Board Work Study Meeting on Sept. 14 and the next Regular Board Meeting on Sept. 21.

For residents across Cimarron and the larger Katy ISD community, the Aug. 24 meeting is an opportunity to see how decisions affecting school funding, taxes, employees, students and district operations move from proposals into policy.

Whether residents choose to attend, watch online, review the supporting documents or speak directly to trustees, staying engaged in Katy ISD Board meetings can provide a clearer understanding of the decisions shaping local schools.
