Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen Sets Oct. 19 Opening Date for New Tomball Restaurant

Tomball / Magnolia
October 05 2026

Tomball residents who have been watching the new Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen take shape along Tomball Parkway can now mark their calendars. The restaurant has announced that it will officially open its doors on Monday, Oct. 19, adding another full-service dining option to the growing Tomball area.

The new Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen is located at 27659 Tomball Pkwy, Tomball, TX 77377. The opening date was announced by a member of the restaurant’s local team, which is still hiring as preparations continue ahead of the first day of service.

For local families, the opening brings a familiar Texas restaurant brand closer to home, with a menu built around casual, sit-down meals that range from chicken tenders and pot pie to steaks, ribs, seafood and salads.

From construction plans to an Oct. 19 opening

My Neighborhood News first reported plans for the Tomball Cheddar’s in November 2025, when state filings showed a new restaurant planned for the Tomball Parkway site.

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project called for construction of a 5,864-square-foot full-service restaurant, along with a new parking lot, landscaping, utilities and other site improvements. The estimated construction cost was listed at $3.5 million.

Now, nearly a year after those plans became public, the focus is shifting from construction to opening day. The Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce calendar also lists a ribbon cutting for Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen on Oct. 19, the same day the restaurant is scheduled to open.

What to expect at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Tomball

Cheddar’s has built its identity around scratch-made American comfort food served in generous portions. Among the restaurant’s best-known dishes are Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, hand-breaded Chicken Tenders and Country Fried Steak, along with Grilled Salmon, Homemade Onion Rings and other appetizers and entrées.

Then there are the Honey Butter Croissants, one of the items most closely associated with the brand. Cheddar’s bakes the croissants in-house, tops them with honey butter and serves a complimentary croissant to guests with their meal.

That combination of familiar comfort food and casual family dining is what the restaurant will bring to Tomball Parkway when the doors open Oct. 19. For residents searching for new restaurants in Tomball or places to eat near Tomball Parkway, the opening adds another option for everything from weeknight family dinners to weekend meals with friends.

A Texas restaurant comes home to another Texas community

Cheddar’s roots are also close to home. Founders Doug Rogers and Aubrey Good opened the first restaurant in Arlington, Texas, in 1979. The company says the Cheddar’s name itself came from a fifth-grade class that offered suggestions to the founders. The brand adopted the Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen name in 2015 and joined Darden Restaurants in 2017.

Today, Cheddar’s has more than 180 restaurants across the country. Its parent company, Darden Restaurants, also operates brands including Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, The Capital Grille, Chuy’s, Seasons 52 and Eddie V’s.

For Tomball, however, the bigger story is simply that a project residents have watched develop for months is almost ready to welcome its first customers.

The local Cheddar’s team says it is still hiring as opening day approaches. With Oct. 19 now set, residents will not have much longer to wait before the first plates come out of the kitchen and those familiar Honey Butter Croissants begin arriving at tables.
