CFISD Appoints Dr. Plas Williams Jr. as New Principal of Cypress Springs High School

November 17 2025

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) has announced that Dr. Plas Williams Jr. will be the next principal of Cypress Springs High School, stepping into the role following the upcoming retirement of current principal Dr. Cheryl Henry in December.

The appointment, made official on November 14, marks a homecoming for Dr. Williams, who previously served as associate principal and director of instruction at Cypress Springs. A 25-year veteran educator and current principal at Truitt Middle School, Dr. Williams brings a wealth of leadership experience and a deep familiarity with the CFISD community to his new role.

Deep Roots in Education and Leadership

Dr. Williams began his education career as a classroom teacher at Heights High School in Houston ISD, where he quickly transitioned into administrative leadership as the campus director of instruction. Since joining CFISD in 2009, his trajectory has included roles as a teacher, assistant principal, director of instruction, and principal.

His CFISD journey began at Campbell Middle School and led him to Cypress Springs High School in 2018 as director of instruction. He was promoted to associate principal in 2020 and, most recently, has led Truitt Middle School as principal since 2022. His extensive credentials include certifications in Texas Principal EC-12 and Curriculum Management Audit Training, underscoring his strong foundation in instructional excellence and campus leadership.

Dr. Williams earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University, a Master of Science in Computing Technology in Education from Nova Southeastern University, and a Doctor of Education in Administrative Leadership from Walden University.

Leading the Panther Community with Purpose

In his new position, Dr. Williams will return to a campus he already knows well, ready to build on a legacy of academic achievement and school spirit. His vision emphasizes student belonging, high expectations, and collaborative partnerships with families and staff.

“I am truly honored to serve as the next principal of Cypress Springs High School,” said Dr. Williams. “The Panther community is rich with tradition, pride and limitless potential. I am inspired by the school’s legacy of excellence and the strong sense of community that defines Cypress Springs. As we look ahead, I am excited to partner with our talented staff, dedicated families and outstanding students to build upon that foundation.”

He continued, “Together, we will continue fostering a culture of high expectations, belonging and success for all – where every student is known, valued and empowered to achieve at the highest levels. I look forward to the incredible work we will accomplish as one Panther family.”

A New Chapter for Cypress Springs High School

Located in the heart of the Cypress area, Cypress Springs High School serves a vibrant and diverse student body. With Dr. Williams at the helm, the campus is poised to enter its next chapter of growth, academic innovation, and student-centered leadership.

As the community prepares for Dr. Henry’s retirement and Dr. Williams’ transition into the role, the change is seen as a steady continuation of Cypress Springs’ leadership. With his prior experience on campus, Dr. Williams steps into the position with a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and priorities.
