‘Bar Rescue’ Star Jon Taffer Targets Austin for Taffer’s Tavern Expansion Ahead of Texas Restaurant Show Keynote

Austin  /  Austin
July 10 2026

Greater Austin’s restaurant scene could eventually welcome a familiar name from television as hospitality expert and “Bar Rescue” star Jon Taffer sets his sights on expanding Taffer’s Tavern across Texas.

Taffer’s full-service pub franchise is actively targeting Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio for future growth. The announcement comes as Taffer prepares to headline the 2026 Texas Restaurant Show on Sunday, July 12, at the Henry B. González Convention Center in San Antonio.

While no Austin location has been announced, the city is among the brand’s priority markets as Taffer’s Tavern searches for experienced multi-unit franchise operators and hospitality-focused entrepreneurs. For Central Texas diners, the expansion effort could bring another nationally recognized restaurant concept into an already competitive Austin food and beverage market.

Jon Taffer to Headline 2026 Texas Restaurant Show

Taffer is scheduled to deliver his keynote presentation at 11:40 a.m. Sunday as part of the Texas Restaurant Show’s educational programming.

Drawing from nearly 40 years in the restaurant, bar and hospitality industries, Taffer is expected to discuss what it takes to build, repair and scale a restaurant business in today’s operating environment. His presentation will focus on leadership, repeatable systems and his trademarked “Reaction Management” strategy, the same approach featured on Paramount Network’s “Bar Rescue.”

“Texas operators don't need theory. They need what works,” Taffer said. “I built my career fixing bars that were bleeding money because nobody had a system. That's what I'm bringing to this stage – real systems, real reactions, the stuff that separates operators who scale from the ones who stall out. This is exactly the audience Taffer's Tavern was built for.”

Taffer is currently filming the 10th season of “Bar Rescue,” the reality series in which he works with struggling bar owners to address operational, financial and customer-service problems.

Outside of television, he chairs the consulting firm Taffer Dynamics. His consulting work has included brands such as the NFL Network, Anheuser-Busch, Ritz-Carlton, TGI Fridays, Buffalo Wild Wings, Famous Dave’s Barbecue, Hyatt Hotels and Marriott International.

He is also a New York Times best-selling author whose books include “Raise the Bar,” “Don’t Bullsh*t Yourself” and “The Power of Conflict: Speak Your Mind and Get the Results You Want.” His business ventures also include Taffer’s Browned Butter Bourbon, which features vanilla and toffee notes inspired by his background in cocktails and culinary development.

What Taffer’s Tavern Could Bring to Austin

Taffer’s Tavern is designed as a modern interpretation of an old-world neighborhood pub, combining traditional tavern atmosphere with technology-supported restaurant operations.

The concept centers on elevated bar food, signature cocktails and a welcoming gathering space where guests can meet friends, watch events or settle in for a full-service dining experience. Its beverage program includes what the company describes as “fast-craft” cocktails, using advanced preparation and mixology techniques to deliver consistent drinks more efficiently.

Locations also feature floor-to-ceiling bars, regional and national spirits, local beer selections, draft beverages and wine programs adapted to individual markets. That localized approach could allow a future Austin Taffer’s Tavern to incorporate Texas breweries, regional distilleries and flavors familiar to Central Texas diners.

The restaurant’s streamlined operating model is supported by hospitality and restaurant technology partners including Shift4, Middleby Corporation and Krowne. Company leaders say the model is intended to improve consistency and efficiency without reducing food quality or the guest experience.

Taffer’s Tavern debuted in Atlanta in 2020 and has since expanded through the Atlanta area and into Orlando. In 2025, Taffer partnered with Craveworthy Brands to help scale the concept and strengthen its franchise support system.

Craveworthy Brands is a restaurant platform and franchisor with more than 20 concepts and over 300 locations in the United States and international markets. The company develops emerging restaurant concepts and supports established brands through shared operational, training and franchise resources. Its long-term mission is to create 100,000 success stories by 2035 across its restaurant system.

Why Austin Is Part of the Texas Expansion Strategy

Austin’s growing population, active hospitality industry and strong culture of social dining make the metro area a natural target for restaurant franchises seeking a Texas presence.

Taffer’s Tavern is positioning itself as an experience-driven concept rather than simply another bar or casual restaurant. That distinction may be important in Austin, where diners have access to an extensive mix of locally owned restaurants, entertainment districts, breweries, cocktail bars and national chains.

The company believes Texas offers a strong pool of experienced restaurant operators and communities that already support gathering places centered on food, drinks and hospitality. The U.S. bar and tavern industry exceeded $39 billion in 2025, according to industry data cited by the company, as customers continued seeking restaurant experiences that combine social connection with quality menus.

“Texas is where operators win,” said Gregg Majewski, CEO and founder of Craveworthy Brands. “Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio – big metros, growing populations, operators who appreciate the bar business. We don't need to be the biggest name in Texas. We need to be the best business in the category, and that's what Taffer's Tavern delivers. Jon on that stage puts this directly in front of the right people. We're betting big on Texas.”

For Austin-area residents, the expansion announcement is an early signal rather than confirmation of a new restaurant. The company has not identified a specific site, franchise partner or anticipated opening date in Central Texas.

What Happens Next for Taffer’s Tavern in Texas

The company’s immediate focus is identifying franchise operators capable of developing and managing Taffer’s Tavern locations in Austin and other major Texas cities.

Texas Restaurant Show attendees interested in the franchise can meet representatives at the Craveworthy Brands booth, No. 1151, in Exhibit Halls 3 and 4. The show brings together restaurant owners, hospitality professionals, vendors and industry leaders from across the state.

The 2026 Texas Restaurant Show is being held at the Henry B. González Convention Center in downtown San Antonio. Taffer’s keynote is scheduled for Sunday, July 12, at 11:40 a.m.

Whether Taffer’s Tavern ultimately finds a home in downtown Austin, North Austin or another growing Central Texas dining corridor will depend on franchise partnerships and site selection. Still, the brand’s decision to specifically identify Austin as a target market places the capital city firmly within its Texas growth plans.
