Austin FC Signs Jorge Alastuey to First Team Contract After Standout Run With Austin FC II

Austin  /  Austin
August 01 2026

Austin FC is rewarding one of the strongest performers in its player development system, signing midfielder Jorge Alastuey to a Major League Soccer first team contract after his productive run with Austin FC II.

The move gives the 23-year-old from Zaragoza, Spain, an opportunity to continue building his career in Austin while offering the Verde & Black another attacking option during the remainder of the 2026 MLS season.

Alastuey’s contract is guaranteed through the end of 2026 and includes options for the 2027 sprint season and the full 2027-28 season.

For Austin FC supporters, the signing is also another sign that the club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate is becoming a meaningful pathway to Q2 Stadium. Alastuey is now the fourth player on the current Austin FC roster to earn a first team contract after initially joining Austin FC II, following Micah Burton, Ervin Torres and Riley Thomas.

Jorge Alastuey Earns Austin FC Promotion

Alastuey joined Austin FC II in January 2025 and quickly developed into one of the team’s most reliable attacking players.

Through 39 MLS NEXT Pro appearances, he has recorded 19 goals and eight assists. He led Austin FC II with 16 goal contributions during the 2025 season, finishing with 10 goals and six assists.

He has remained at the center of the club’s attack in 2026, contributing nine goals and two assists as Austin FC II climbed to first place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference.

“I’m very happy to sign a contract with the first team and I want to thank the Club, and all my coaches and teammates, for their support and belief in me,” said Alastuey. “I got a first taste of what MLS is like in making my debut earlier this season, and I’m hungry to keep improving and to help the team achieve its goals this season.”

MLS Experience Helped Alastuey Make His Case

Although the contract marks Alastuey’s official promotion to the Austin FC first team, local fans have already seen him compete at the MLS level.

He made his Austin FC debut on March 14, 2026, after joining the matchday roster through a Short-Term Agreement. Alastuey played 31 minutes as a substitute against Real Salt Lake.

He later made his first career MLS start against the San Jose Earthquakes on April 22.

Those appearances gave Austin FC’s coaching staff a closer look at how his scoring ability, movement and technical background could translate from MLS NEXT Pro to the first team.

“Jorge has consistently displayed a high level of performance with Austin FC II and has impressed when given the opportunity to train and play at the first team level,” said Austin FC Interim Head Coach Davy Arnaud. “We congratulate him on earning a first team contract.”

From Zaragoza and La Masia to Austin, Texas

Alastuey’s path to Austin began in his hometown of Zaragoza, where he entered the academy system of Real Zaragoza.

In 2016, he moved to FC Barcelona’s internationally recognized La Masia academy. He represented Barcelona at the U-16, U-18 and U-19 levels before continuing his development with Italian Serie A club Napoli’s U-19 team.

His first opportunities in senior professional soccer came with CD Teruel in Spain and LKS Lodz in Poland.

That experience across several European soccer systems eventually led Alastuey to Central Texas, where his production for Austin FC II helped him earn a place on the MLS roster.

At 5 feet, 10 inches tall, Alastuey is listed as a midfielder and will occupy Supplemental and International roster designations for Austin FC. He will also remain eligible to play for Austin FC II while on loan, allowing the club to manage his minutes and continue his development.

Austin FC II Continues to Build a First Team Pathway

The signing carries significance beyond one roster move.

Austin FC II was created to help develop players for the MLS first team, giving younger professionals regular competitive minutes while allowing them to train within the club’s broader soccer system.

With Alastuey joining Burton, Torres and Thomas as players who progressed from Austin FC II to first team contracts, the pathway is becoming increasingly visible to supporters and prospective players.

For Austin-area soccer fans, that means matches involving Austin FC II can offer an early look at athletes who may eventually take the field at Q2 Stadium.

Alastuey’s promotion also comes while Austin FC II is leading the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference, giving the midfielder an opportunity to contribute to both the affiliate’s successful season and the first team’s goals.

What Happens Next for Jorge Alastuey and Austin FC

Alastuey will be available for first team selection while continuing to be eligible for Austin FC II matches through a loan arrangement.

His immediate challenge will be earning consistent MLS playing time and showing that the scoring production he delivered at the MLS NEXT Pro level can help Austin FC during the remainder of the season.

For the club, the signing adds depth while reinforcing a development model built around identifying talent, providing meaningful match experience and creating opportunities from within.

For Alastuey, it marks the next step in a journey that has taken him from Zaragoza to Barcelona, Naples, Poland and now Austin — where his performances have earned him a first team opportunity.
