Austin Community Foundation Opens $1.1 Million Grant Opportunity for Central Texas Nonprofits Focused on Economic Mobility
As the cost of housing, child care, and health care continues to rise across Central Texas, many families are finding it increasingly difficult to achieve long-term financial stability. In response to those growing challenges, Austin Community Foundation has launched a new round of grant funding aimed at helping local nonprofits address barriers to economic opportunity and upward mobility.
The foundation announced that applications are now open for its 2026 Economic Mobility Grants through the Women’s Fund and Hispanic Impact Fund, which together will distribute $1.1 million in unrestricted general operating support to nonprofit organizations serving communities across Central Texas.
For nonprofits working on issues ranging from workforce development and educational access to health equity and financial stability, the funding represents an opportunity to strengthen existing programs and expand services that help residents build more secure futures.
Why Economic Mobility Matters in Central Texas
Economic mobility—the ability for individuals and families to improve their financial circumstances over time—has become a growing focus for community leaders throughout the Austin region. While Central Texas continues to experience economic growth, many residents have struggled to keep pace with increasing living costs.
Austin Community Foundation identified income inequality as one of the region’s most significant challenges, noting that stagnant wages for many low- and middle-income workers have made it more difficult for families to afford essentials such as housing, child care, and medical care.
The grant program is designed to support community-based organizations that are working directly with residents facing those challenges, with an emphasis on long-term, sustainable solutions informed by local needs.
Two Funds, One Goal: Expanding Opportunity
The foundation's grant cycle is supported through two signature initiatives: the Hispanic Impact Fund and the Women’s Fund.
Hispanic Impact Fund Supports Central Texas Latino Communities
Austin Community Foundation notes that Central Texas is home to nearly one million Latino residents, a population that continues to play a major role in the region’s cultural, economic, and entrepreneurial growth.
At the same time, research has highlighted ongoing disparities in areas such as educational attainment, access to investment capital, health care coverage, and representation in leadership positions. Through the Hispanic Impact Fund, grant dollars are directed toward organizations working to address those gaps and improve economic outcomes for Latino families.
The fund focuses on advancing economic mobility by supporting initiatives that help individuals and families access greater opportunities and resources.
Women’s Fund Addresses Economic and Health Disparities
The Women’s Fund focuses on challenges that disproportionately affect women throughout Central Texas.
Austin Community Foundation cites research showing that investments in women can create ripple effects across entire communities by reducing poverty and improving economic outcomes for families. The fund supports organizations addressing persistent economic and health disparities while helping women achieve greater financial independence and stability.
Together, the two programs reflect a broader strategy centered on strengthening families, expanding opportunity, and improving quality of life throughout the region.

What This Means for Central Texas Communities
For many nonprofits, unrestricted operating support can be among the most valuable forms of funding because it provides flexibility to address emerging community needs, invest in staffing, strengthen infrastructure, and expand programs where they are needed most.
As Central Texas continues to grow, initiatives that focus on economic mobility are increasingly viewed as critical to ensuring that residents across all backgrounds can share in the region’s prosperity. By investing in organizations working on the front lines of education, workforce development, health access, and economic opportunity, Austin Community Foundation's latest grant cycle aims to support solutions that have lasting impacts on families and neighborhoods throughout the region.
