Applebee’s Coming Soon to Copperfield as New Highway 6 Restaurant Prepares for Fall Opening
A familiar restaurant corner in Copperfield is getting closer to serving customers again — and this time, the plans are official.
Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar has confirmed it will open a new restaurant this fall at 7250 Highway 6 North in Houston, bringing the national casual dining brand to the former Fuddrucker’s property that many Copperfield, Hearthstone and Cypress-area residents have known for years.
The announcement, made August 13 in an email to My Neighborhood News, also answers a question that has followed the highly visible Highway 6 property through several months of changing restaurant plans. My Neighborhood News first reported in May that Applebee’s was expected to take over the site after earlier plans for a Fuzzy’s Taco Shop did not move forward.
Now, Applebee’s has created an official page for the Houston location identifying the restaurant as “Grand Opening Soon,” confirming the address and listing dine-in, online ordering and takeout among the services expected to be available.
For a stretch of Highway 6 where longtime residents have watched restaurants come, go and change names over the years, the opening will also put a busy dining room back inside a building that once served generations of local Fuddrucker’s customers.
New Copperfield Applebee’s Will Include Full Bar, TVs and 5,714 Square Feet of Dining Space
The 5,714-square-foot Applebee’s in Copperfield is being designed with the brand’s updated restaurant look, according to the company.
Plans include comfortable dining areas, a full-service bar and televisions throughout the restaurant, positioning the location for everything from family dinners and lunches to happy hour, late-night meals and watching a game with friends.
The menu will feature the American casual-dining staples Applebee’s has become known for, including burgers, steaks, pasta, salads and appetizers, along with cocktails and other bar offerings. Customers will also be able to use Applebee’s To Go online ordering.
Applebee’s current restaurant page for the location specifically highlights burgers, wings, lunch and dinner options, appetizers, beer and cocktails, along with takeout service.
For Copperfield-area families, the concept will be familiar. Applebee’s has spent decades positioning its restaurants as neighborhood gathering places rather than special-occasion destinations — a formula built around approachable meals, drinks and a casual atmosphere.

The Opening Marks a New Chapter for Nazarian Global Enterprises
The Copperfield restaurant is significant for more than Applebee’s. It will be the first Applebee’s operated by Nazarian Global Enterprises, or NGE, a Houston-based restaurant operator with longstanding experience as an IHOP franchisee.
The family company traces its story to Hnreck Nazarian, who came to the United States in 1979 with $300 and worked his way through entry-level jobs and management before eventually opening restaurants of his own. NGE says that experience shaped a company culture centered on advancement from within, training and creating opportunities for employees.
Over the years, NGE has operated independent restaurants and more than 17 IHOP franchises around the country. The company says more than 400 of its employees have remained with NGE for at least a decade — an unusually personal piece of history for the company behind Copperfield’s newest national restaurant brand.
NGE has also operated Fuzzy’s Taco Shop franchises, adding another connection to the evolving plans for this particular Highway 6 property. Its move into Applebee’s represents an expansion of the company’s restaurant portfolio while keeping the new location tied to a Houston-based operator.
From Fuddrucker’s to Fuzzy’s Plans — and Now Applebee’s
The restaurant building at 7250 Highway 6 North has a history that makes the opening especially noticeable for people who regularly travel through Copperfield.
Fuddrucker’s operated there for years before closing in 2024, leaving one of the more recognizable restaurant properties along the corridor vacant.
Earlier redevelopment plans pointed toward a Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. My Neighborhood News previously reported on those plans before documenting the subsequent shift to Applebee’s in May 2026.
At the time, an exact Applebee’s opening timeline had not been announced. The August announcement changes that, narrowing the expected debut to fall 2026.
Applebee’s own location directory has also now added the Copperfield restaurant at 7250 Hwy 6 N and lists a local phone number, another indication that the location is moving toward opening.
For nearby residents, that means a building remembered primarily as a Fuddrucker’s for many years is entering another chapter rather than remaining an empty restaurant shell along the Highway 6 commercial corridor.
Applebee’s Has Been Serving “Neighborhoods” Since 1980
Although the Copperfield location is new, Applebee’s itself dates back more than four decades.
Bill and T.J. Palmer opened the first restaurant in Decatur, Georgia, in 1980 under the memorable original name T.J. Applebee’s Rx for Edibles & Elixirs. The concept later became Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill + Bar and reached its 100th restaurant in 1989 and its 1,000th in 1998.
Along the way, the chain introduced features that became part of its identity, from its Brewtus beer glass in the 1990s to Carside To Go in 2004 and nationwide delivery and catering in 2019. Its first U.S. dual-branded Applebee’s and IHOP restaurant opened in Seguin, Texas, in 2025.
Today, Applebee’s remains one of the world’s largest casual dining brands. As of March 29, 2026, Dine Brands reported 1,498 franchised Applebee’s restaurants plus 71 company-operated restaurants, for 1,569 Applebee’s locations in the company’s restaurant count.
That distinction matters because Applebee’s continues to operate primarily through franchise entrepreneurs — operators such as NGE that run restaurants in individual communities while working under the national brand.
Applebee’s says its broader neighborhood philosophy extends beyond food through local fundraisers, charitable partnerships and community involvement.
What Will Be on the Menu at the New Applebee’s in Copperfield?
Residents wondering what Applebee’s serves can expect a broad casual American menu designed to accommodate groups with different tastes.
The brand is best known for categories including burgers, chicken, steaks, ribs, pasta, salads, sandwiches and shareable appetizers, alongside desserts and children’s selections. The bar program includes cocktails, beer and other drinks, with promotions and menu availability varying by restaurant.
That variety has been central to Applebee’s neighborhood-dining identity: a place where one table might include someone ordering a burger, another person choosing pasta or steak, and friends meeting later for appetizers and drinks.
The Copperfield restaurant is expected to serve lunch, dinner, happy hour and late-night diners, providing another full-service option for residents across Copperfield, Hearthstone and surrounding northwest Houston neighborhoods.
Applebee’s Copperfield Is Hiring Ahead of Its Fall 2026 Opening
The new restaurant is already preparing for its workforce.
Nazarian Global Enterprises is hiring for the Copperfield Applebee’s ahead of the fall opening, giving residents another indication that the restaurant is moving into its final pre-opening stages.
NGE’s restaurant teams typically include positions such as hosts, servers, cooks, dishwashers and management, and the company emphasizes internal advancement and employee training as part of its operating model.

An exact grand opening date has not yet been announced. For now, Applebee’s officially lists the location as coming soon, while NGE says customers can expect the doors to open later this fall.
After more than two years of changes at a restaurant site that many Copperfield residents recognize on sight, the next chapter is finally becoming clearer: burgers, steaks, appetizers and a neighborhood bar are preparing to return to the corner — this time under the Applebee’s name.
