'After the Bonfire' Exhibition Brings New, Thought-Provoking Works to Bosque Gallery at LSC-CyFair in Cypress

October 01 2025

A bold and imaginative new art exhibition is set to ignite conversation at Lone Star College-CyFair this fall. Opening October 2 and running through November 6, the Bosque Gallery will host After the Bonfire, a joint exhibition by visiting artists Brittany Ham and Justin Korver, featuring entirely new works created specifically for the Cypress campus.

Bosque Gallery coordinator Heather Braman shared her excitement about the exhibit, saying, “This joint exhibition builds on Brittany and Justin’s explorations as a team, and we are delighted they are creating brand new works just for Bosque Gallery. They are premiering a tapestry that will run the length of the wall as well as soft sculptures never before seen.”

The installation will include hybrid creatures—mesmerizing fusions of dogs, deer, and humans—crafted in soft sculpture and tapestry that reinterpret the age-old theme of “the hunt.” Drawing from European painting and sculpture traditions, the artists subvert classical gender norms often embedded in those narratives.

“Historically, men have been portrayed as aggressive hunters and women as passive prey,” Ham and Korver explained in their artist statement. “Our work challenges this tendency and has associated the feminine with hunting dogs and the masculine with the stag to subvert historical depictions of gender roles.”

The result is a rich visual exploration of gender dynamics, set in a mythical, almost dreamlike space where figures blend into their landscapes—prompting viewers to reflect on their own relationships with nature, gender, and power.

A Hub for Creative Exploration in Cypress

Located on the Lone Star College-CyFair campus, the Bosque Gallery serves as a cultural hub for Northwest Houston and Cypress-area residents. Known for showcasing both student and professional work, the gallery regularly features exhibitions that span painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and installations.

As part of LSC-CyFair’s broader mission to make the arts accessible to the community, Bosque Gallery exhibitions are free and open to the public, offering a unique opportunity for residents to experience contemporary art close to home.

In addition to the exhibit, a Library Art Talk with the artists will take place at 1:30 p.m. on October 15, giving visitors a chance to hear directly from Ham and Korver about their collaborative process, the symbolism within their work, and their unique approach to reimagining traditional art forms.
