Lone Star College-CyFair Students Named Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars
Two students from Lone Star College-CyFair, Danielle Franklin Bryant and Emma Cokenour, have been named as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars. Recognized for their extraordinary academic accomplishments and leadership potential, the pair have each been awarded a scholarship of $1,000.
The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship, Phi Theta Kappa’s first scholarship program available to its members while enrolled in community colleges, is a prestigious honor, designed to reward those students who display academic excellence and potential for leadership. This year, only 210 recipients were selected from nearly 1,500 applicants.
The scholarship was an unexpected blessing for these students. "The scholarship was so unexpected and will be a huge help in paying for tuition and books for the coming year," remarked Cokenour, a dual credit student at LSC-CyFair who is set to earn her associate degree in Spring 2025.
Cokenour's admiration for her science teachers, whom she regards as inspirational women, has ignited her passion for biology. She has a particular interest in music therapy, drawing from personal experiences where her piano performances brought joy to her grandparents. Cokenour aspires to combine her love for music with her dedication to assisting the elderly, ultimately aiming to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biomedical engineering.

Bryant, due to graduate from LSC-CyFair at the same time as Cokenour, shares a similar gratitude for the financial support offered by the scholarship. With an aspiration to become a mental health therapist, Bryant plans to use the scholarship to help achieve her educational goals, which include pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, and eventually a Doctor of Sociology degree.
"We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community," commented Jane Hale Hopkins, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
Additional information about Phi Theta Kappa scholarships and benefits can be found at ptk.org. Those interested in LSC-CyFair's spring scholarships and endowments must apply by the Nov. 1 deadline.
